The Advantages and Disadvantages of Being a Hunter

Advantages Superior Mobility- Highest strafe speed, single jump height, grounded speed, and slide distance. Potentially faster reload speed and better weapon stability. Shadestep grants Nightstalkers an option to evade and approach which can make targeting them a bit more difficult. Stealth- Turning invisible to remove you from radar, allowing you to get the jump on enemies. Roaming Supers- Able to position before and after kills which usually results in sprees. Golden Gun is relatively safe if used properly, but can be shutdown before finding targets, unlike other supers. Disadvantages Near useless grenades- Arcbolts are overall 45 damage weaker than they were at launch, they have more arming time, and less seeking range than their solar counterpart. These grenades cannot be used to followup a hand cannon headshot or sniper body shot for a 2 piece kill combo. Flux grenades have the smallest amount of tracking AND the lowest damage of all tracking grenades. Making them incapable of killing through high armor and any form of shield. Skip grenades deal low damage, don't arm reliably, and are generally only good for pushing or forcing an opponent to reposition/take cover. Swarm grenades deal low damage, can be shot, and are easy to avoid. Trip mines are easy to see, can be shot, and are only capable of killing low armor hunters/warlocks in one hit. On top of that, they don't deal damage instantly like the Lightning grenades will. Incendiaries don't give you an advantage like Flashbangs and Suppressions do, as they're strictly for damaging and flushing out enemies. Vortex grenades and voidwalls are both area of denial grenades that can be completely avoided, especially with the jumping out of smoke grenades. That leaves spike grenades which are easily the most useless grenades in the game. Terrible Melee Abilities- Warlocks and Titans can't use their melee charge when they miss a target. Yet, we have throwing knives and smokes, both of which can spend a charge on miss. Even when they hit, they deal less damage and offer less benefit. This wasn't originally the case, as throwing knives and smokes were lethal. Knives did 10% more damage allowing incendiaries to one shot low health guardians without solar armor, and smokes would stick people allowing grenade traps. Now though? Now they're just sluggish wastes of abilities. They have the largest recovery period on miss, making them extremely punishable unlike other melees. Blink strike has the smallest hitbox, now has low range, low damage, and can't even be used looking down from a full double jump anymore. Backstab has been hit hard to the point where you lose your damage bonus if an opponent is turning toward you as you swing, making it truly a hit or miss ability. Easy to shutdown supers- Golden Gun has no armor, only 3 chances, and the shortest timer among all mobile supers. It also prevents use of your normal gun (unlike Shadowshot quiver) which means that wasting shots to stay alive will happen more often than not, instead of being able to save your shot for that possible double or triple. Golden gun is completely susceptible to shotgun camping, panic supers, grenades, and snipers. As the only super with no damage reduction, grenades are still lethal to golden gun and that makes it even easier to counteract. Arcblade removes usage of guns, forcing you to put yourself at maximum risk in order to get kills. Shotgun beatdown works effectively with all classes allowing trades, and warlocks can even get shields so that they don't die at all. Having to run into enemy territory also means susceptibility to grenades such as flashbangs or suppressions which can potentially shutdown the super by itself. Most other supers also counters these two in particular. Shadowshot, HoS, Nova. Ward counters arc blade when used with armor, havoc shuts down arcblade or GG if used to camp a corner, and stormtrance will always kill a bladedancer if the warlock gets the first hit, as Bladedancer relies on movement to dodge, and stormtrance autotracks. Can only use two trip mines- As opposed to two of any grenade (Armamentarium) or two of any solar grenade (gift of the sun). This is notable as a disadvantage considering how terrible Hunter grenades are naturally. No Panic Super- The only class who has no benefit to using a super at point blank range due to slow startup and no lethality on cast.

        Also this is an entirely opinionated post its the grenades it's the mele attack it's the supers I have seen tons of post on all the other classes it's seems like all classes suck so let's stop crying about it:p

          • Flux needs a buff. Trip mines need to be fixed as they are no longer equivalent to lightning and spike never was good. Balance issues should be damage, range, duration, and utility. GG is fine as high risk high reward same as arc blade. Melees could use some help. Backstab needs to be replaced with some kind of consistent high damage modification to emphasize blade dancer as a high damage CQC/melee focus. Skips should be replaced with something more resembling a multi knife/shuriken spread with less potent tracking that activates after a certain travel distance instead of on impact and does bonus damage if it hits before tracking starts. Throwing knife needs to hit heavy and burn should be adjusted. A possible ability mod would be the knife bounces off objects or off enemy crit hits/kill. Smoke could use some kind of bonus effect on stick and vanish in smoke has pretty well 0 offensive to it as the smoke will be clear and not do much of anything to enemies. A bonus melee damage while vanish in smoke is active would do.

            • You can panic use shadow shot, just jump and fire away. Your class is also the only class that have potentially infinite ranged melees that do the most damage out of any charged melee. The smoke is the only melee with sticking from anywhere with envenomed that can one-shot with no additional circumstance other than if they move. You are also the only class to have an evasive jump for each of your classes. By your jump being both the fastest straight up and in any direction from a stand still it can be used to avoid fatal attacks such as hammers, nova bomb, potentially an early FoH, golden gun, shadow shot, and fire bolts. Not to mention with all classes stuck to the "male" option hunters have the smallest hitboxes making them the most difficult to body shot, pair that up with the fastest and most evasive jump in the game and your more difficult to kill. You do NOT have useless grenades, your class has the best grenades for finishing off low health enemies because they have some of the easiest grenades to use such as arcbolt and skip. Although they aren't powerful they have such speed and insane tracking to finish off any low health enemy with ease. Hunters are so far the only class to have a 3 subclasses that are mobile supers and the most useful depending on the situation, I'm not going into details for this. Although invisibility isn't great for PvP, its extremely useful for PvE because to ai its like you temporarily don't exist, giving you a temporary sort of invincibility to ai with the exception of kill all things on the map boss moves. Your class is also the only one with actual visible class items and the best looking out of all of them, sometimes. The most useful exotics for any situation. Don't like the blade dancer change? Just put on mask of the third man and watch that problem disappear. Your super and grenades take too long to recharge? Pop on tarantella for blade dancer. You think 3 gg shots aren't enough? Put on achlyophage symbiote and that additional shot will come in handy. You don't want to waste a perk on invisibility? Better put on khepris sting. Don't want to waste too many points on agility for strafing? Better pop on those radiant dance machines. Your golden gun not doing enough against bosses? Better put on celestial nighthawk and do that 160-180,000 damage. Your hunter not look badass enough and not enough melees? Better put on the sealed ahamkara grasps. The better of the class exclusive weapons. Although ace of spades isn't very popular its still a really good hand cannon, and still piercer is a decent sniper, but the still piercer is better than immobius and susano'o Some of the better looking helmets as well. The most over used class for almost any situation. Literally the meme class.

              • Yeah, well, all that aside my hunter pulled several 4.0 K/D games this iron banner using my no-frills Dis-43 and my freshly-nerfed abilities. My normal K/D is garbo. The only advice I can give you is to remember your abilities are best used as a way to help you win primary 1v1 or 1v2 gun battles.

                • Not sure why you skipped over so many good perks like Quickdraw, gunslinger trance and chain of woe unless you have to rely on your abilities to get you kills.

                    • Perhaps blade dancer should have a speed increase while active. Hunters are suppose to be the fastest yet I get out runned by titans who are suppose to be the slowest

                        • Good guide, but I would say that blades melee (blink strike) is great. Backstab is a perk that stacks on the melee. I'd also say that both blade and Gunslinger greatly reward skilled use, even more so than most of the other classes in the game.

                          • The biggest downfall in my opinion with the Hunter has nothing to do with what you listed. It's easily the armor and recovery. I don't understand why Hunters don't have perks to have both high. All this agility and still slower than Titans. Titans have it made in this game.

                            • Don't activate GG without cover. Then you won't be sniped in the face. Incendiary grenades are one of the strongest and most useful of all Hunter grenades. Even if you don't get a kill, the enemy burns for an incredibly long time which gives quite a bit of tracking. Took out a lot of guys hiding behind cover because they were burning. Learn not to use ranged melee abilities stupidly. Of course you'll miss when you panic melee. Learn to calm yourself and throwing knife is one of the best melees in the game. Your "disadvantages" come from players unable to deal with Hunter abilities.

                                    The BD is good if used properly, though the grenades suck. Have not used nightstalker in a bit so IDK about that. My only issue with the gunslinger is the lack of armor in super, the incendiary grenade is excellent if you know how to use it and easily a ohk 95% of the time. Also, pro tip..if you use BD use the raid boots to increase your agility.
