Frankly, I don't really care so long as the target is dead. That means said target is back at the respawn screen, not shooting at me or my team.
That's one less rifle, one less grenade, one less potential super that is on the front for me and my friends to deal with at that time.
Now, I wouldn't mind the amount of points you get for assists being based off the total damage you did to the target.
You did 50% of the damage? You get 50pts, you did 99% of their health, you get 99pts. I think this would be a more fair system, if score is really what gets your jollies off.

That's exactly how BF4 does it, same points as percentage of damage dealt, but once it passes 76% it gives you "Assistance Counts as Kill" and you both get the full value for it.

BF I think had a really good system in that regard. I've not touched BF for quite a few while now. May need to fire it up again sometime down the road.
