Emote customization is, in my opinion, being underutilized. We can currently change one emote for one button. I believe that there is potential to create an "Emote layout" for the directional/arrow pad. For example, pressing the up arrow prompts our character to wave at other players. I would like to see some option that allows us to switch that emote out for another emote we have in stock. This should be available for the up, down, left and right arrows on our controllers. If this is possible, then I say players should have the opportunity to use more of their unlocked/bought emotes at once rather than being limited to one customization option.
