It is so you can't go crazy buying weapon parts or heavy ammo for rep.

I'd think I play too much Destiny, but obviously not when my faction ranks are only around 6/7 on each character, it's not like heavy ammo/weapons parts really give that much rep, I'd say for 25,000 glimmer you'd get 1 faction rank rep that way, if that.
