The American Civil War was fought because of slavery

I'm sorry. I really am, but this is a fact. Let's just do a quick experiment: "But Lincoln, the war was fought over state's rights." State's rights to do what? Practice -blam!-ing slavery. I'm sorry. The entire conflict was caused directly by slavey, and all other reasoning anybody can cite and conclude are indirectly related to slavey. Get over it. The Civil War wasn't fought because the south wanted "freedom." The irony of that statement is beyond imagination. They fought for the freedom to own people as property!!? Lmao what? That literally makes no -blam!-ing sense. "But Lincoln, not every solider fought to keep slavey in place. Most fought for their country and their state." The south got crushed, and they had it coming. Fighting for a government that allows and actively supports the practice of slavery equally as despicable.

Fun fact: The Republicans were the liberals back then. And guess what happened to the conservatives in the South back then? They LOST the civil war! Let's face it, Conservatives were always in the way of progress.

I am actually an advocate for slavery, and before you start calling me a racist, I would like to say I'm not. Were it up to me, I would enslave everyone, regardless of ethnicity.

No, from what I've gathered Civil War was fought over Bucky. At least that's what I've seen in the trailers.

        • The war happened because the the North was rapidly changing through industrialization while the south wished to continue to their lifestyles as they always had.

        • It was fought because of the collateral damage caused by the missions that the avengers, a private organization, carried out. The sokovia accords were introduced to keep them in check. Tony stark, who felt guilty over the lives lost in sokovia, was in favor of them. Steve Rogers, however, was not. The disagreement between the two sides is what caused the civil war

          • Though I agree, slavery wasn't the only factor in the spark of the war.

          • Slavery was their economy. It kept their families fed. Most slaveowners weren't the terrible monsters depicted in literature. They didn't fight to keep people as property, they fought to keep what kept their lives going. Not to mention Sectionalism and State's Rights were issues completely independent from slavery before slavery started stirring people's shit during the reform era, example, nullification crisis.

            • Slavery was a huge impact that led to the war. However, there were many other factors that added to the tension.
Former APUSH student.
• Nope. Fought over state rights. Changed to fighting over slavery around 1863 in order to give the north a moral reason to continue all the bloodshed. Lincoln was a smart man and knew it wouldn't be a good idea to start off with fighting for the end of slavery. The north wasn't ready for that yet

                • The north still had slaves during the civil war. And the south didn't get crushed silly, are Kd was way higher and even started to invade the north. Like I said I find it funny how you get triggered over stuff hundreds of years ago Lel

No, it was fought because of sectionilism. Plus, the south wasn't "crushed," the battle of bull run, and pretty much every other battle had major losses on both sides. To prove my point, there were many other problems other than slavery. The south was offended by the industrial revolution, as they felt it was the north's way to destroy their way of life and their economy. The south also felt that they were losing representation in Congress. There was also many other problems, such as the northern tarrifs, taxes, etc. On top of this all, Lincoln was not actually against slavery, but he was the person who pushed the southern States to leave the union, because they thought that the north was going to attack them and their way of life. They did not like how the north was abandoning the agricultural society that Thomas Jefferson had fought to establish. Slavery was not the only issue, but half way through the war, the north had used slavery as a scapegoat to help motivate volunteers to join the army. In fact, tons of Confederate soldiers have stated that they did not fight for slavery, they were fighting for their freedom.

                    • On a more serious note, the civil war was caused by slavery, but not directly. The entire thing was INDIRECTLY caused by slavery.

Not states' rights to practice slavery. States' right to secede from the union.

                          • Well, on issue was that back then they stated that slavery was a civil law and should fall to the states. That is were that concept of it being over states rights came from. That was just a way to say you were not fighting for something evil but something good.
