Are we now hive gods?

In the Oryx:Defeated grimoire card it says that now we have killed him so we are gods ourselves and emulate him. So... if we are hive gods all the enemies we kill after we kill oryx are technically sacrifices to ourselves. Also in our killing him we have mantled his title of a god and we also destroyed potential gods (Ir Anuk and Ir Halak). Finally if we technically hive gods wouldn't the Hive want to kill us so they can become gods themselves. I have explained the Hive's aggression against us prior to killing Oryx and the other races aggression alongside that.

      • Nope, we could have been, but we left his throne vacant and toland even scolds us in a grimore card about how stupid we are for not taking all that power. If i had a choice i would have done it.

      • No there is a card by Tolland. We defeated him but we didn't not replace him. We have created a hole in the pantheon that must be filled

The Touch of Malice grimoire cards implies that the gun is actually a container for Oryx's soul which will gradually shape the wielder into his successor. Oryx himself came up with the idea of the Touch of Malice in the first place, and manipulated Eris into forging it for the Guardian.

        • We are not Hive gods. When Oryx was consumed by his Worm at the end of King's Fall he left a hole in the universe. The power still sits there and the place Oryx once held in the universe aches to be filled. Due to the stupid amounts of power we acquired according to Sword Logic we had the ability, if we wanted, to attempt to mantle Oryx and become the next Taken King. We refused, but Osmium Throne still lies empty. It's why we had to kill Alak Hul and Malok, since they also had enough power to try and become the next Taken King.

          • There's a card saying that... And asking us where are we going, implying we left that power. We were given power by the light of the traveller. We left a power vacuum and most of our fight after the initial campaign is routing the disrupted taken forces and eliminating any possible successor to Oryx. A new card, I believe Noru'Usk from POE, as well as the new Taken Boss, and Alak Hul show this very thing. Oryx left a void and we did not fill it. Like someone said earlier, we don't have a worm that needs feeding nor do we accept one or need one. We're bad ass guardians after all.

We rejected the mantle of becoming a hive God. One of the grimoire cards or in game commentary reference toland the shattered, who for whatever reason either entered and now resides in the hives ascendant realm or became some kind of ascendant himself. After we beat oryx essentially toland expected us to take up the mantle but we refused which made him furious and now he was left to deal with the power vacuum created by oryx's death. So while we are not gods of the hive, we have proven our ability to contend with greater powers, something which toland thought impossible as he strove to understand the hive. We'll probably have to kill oryx's sisters in a later dlc. Edit: the voice speaking to Eris in the oryx the taken King, oryx rebuked, and oryx defeated I think is toland the shattered asking what you're going to do

            • "God" is a subjective term, since to the Eliksni, The Traveller is a God. While Guardians serve similar principles to the Hive's "Sword Logic," The fundamental difference between our peoples is that Guardians can survive without 'feeding their worm.' The "Worm" all Hive feed, from Thrall to Knight, is an Ahamkara Larvae. The Ahamkara seduced Aurash and her sisters and the rest of the hive and gave them power in exchange for accepting their larvae into themselves. We guardians hunted and killed the Ahamkara who tried to do the same with us, so we're walking a VERY different path.

                • From a lore perspective, I'm pretty sure Oryx's sisters are still out there. Maybe they've "inherited" their way into this "vacuum" people are talking about. But frankly, I think Bungie isn't going to make us yet another Hive raid anytime soon, so until one of the sisters manages to take on the role of First Navigator and navigate their way to us, the Hive will probably just remain... Not passive, but at least dormant. Besides, the Hive are literally bound to the Darkness, and what are Guardians if not protectors of the Light? I don't think the Hive would like us as gods.

                  • Good topic. The consensus seems to be that there is a power vacuum and as we all know nature abhors a vacuum. So from a player perspective we will continue to fight pretenders to the throne until balance is restored and the vacuum filled. This doesn't mean that the vacuum could be filled by something as evil as Oryx but could be filled by anyone that is deemed worthy of leading the Hive. We have taken the power to determine who should take this place and we will be the judge, jury and executioner of all that don't fit the bill. From a lore perspective we have several major players who could become too powerful for the Vanguardians to contain. We don't yet know what motivates Rasputin. We don't know yet the true motives of the speaker. We don't know yet to what extent we are part of the Vex simulacra. And we don't know yet how determind the Cabal are to gain a foothold in or system. As a story arc we are only just reaching the end of the 1st chapter. Bungie envisaged a 10 year game so there's a whole lot.more to come. We have yet to see what became of, if anything, the Ahamkara. Where do the 9 figure into the background of our solar system and why are they so willing to help the destruction of those races which are attempting to attack the Traveller. Whilst, yes, we are ultimately defending our planet against attack by alien forces drawn here by the Traveller. Why is it that the Traveller instills so much anger within those races that they'll stop at nothing to destroy it. Perhaps the lure of the light will claim us as it did the Fallen and turn us into a hollow race bent on rediscovering Golden Age technology. Mmmmm makes you think doesn't it Master Rahool.

                    • Nope, as we did not take in the power of the sword logic. We let the power die, and ended the ability to make more taken. Now there is only a few billion left. Yay I guess.....

                      • As far as I understand, we proved that we are stronger than Oryx in King's fall, so the darkness favored us. This is why Oryx was consumed by his worm after we kill him because by sword logic, we disproved his existance. So in a way, we killed a servant of the darkness by worshipping the darkness.

                        • We used Sword Logic to defeat him. And so since we used the Sword Logic, that means that we are stronger than him.
