What do you consider an average K/D?

Divide number of kills by number of deaths for the match in its entirety. Look at your personal k/d to see how you as an individual compare.

1.0 because in pvp there are almost as much as kills as deaths because you can fall of the map

I'd like to say at this point, @TheCreegan your question is really vague and badly phrased. It is hard to tell whether you mean "mean global KD", "mean player KD", "median player KD" or some more nebulous figure based on a qualitative assessment of "averageness" in players. I think you [i]meant[/i]: "What is the range of KDs that you would expect a player who plays regularly and who neither drags down or carries a team to lie within" Or rather "Please tell me that I'm not terrible even though my KD isn't some vast number"

It is a lot more complicated than that It depends what average you're looking at. Mean average will not go by that. Just for example, 5 people play. Let's say there are 100 kills and 100 deaths. Player 1 has 45 kills and 10 deaths. 2 has 15 kills and 25 deaths 3 has 15 kills and 1 death 4 has 20 kills and 19 deaths 5 has 5 kills and 45 deaths. Their K:Ds are 1: 4.5 2: 0.6 3: 15.0 4: 1.05 5: 0.11 Now the average of that group is 4.252. You can expand this to show that the KD average is not slightly below one. It could be just about anything. Edit: The mathematic illiteracy here scares me. I used to think that it had to be around 1, then I went over some calculations and realized that I had been mistaken. Do they not teach averages in grade school anymore? Do you guys know what mean, median and mode are? Edit: More reading on this subject, please educate yourselves.
