Last time I played Trials, I rushed a guy using Red Spectre and a Sniper. I had a MIDA out and a Sniper as my secondary. I waited to land to start shooting, to make sure I was accurate. Everything seemed great. But even though I was in medium range and he clearly had the better weapon, this guy did the most amazingly crutch thing ever: He whipped out a sniper, primed me with a body, and only then swapped back to his Primary to defeat me. I saw his character model swapping the guns and everything. It was at that moment I realized Bungie indeed had made all Primaries Special Weapons by fine-tuning their range too much. It was then that I also realized that we are in a Special Needs Meta. I was having good matchmaking these past few weeks, but now it's going straight back to garbage tryhards exploiting all the gimmicky shit. Probably because of the casuals realizing this game is still a nerfherding tryhard's playground. I hope I'm wrong about the matchmaking, at least.

  • Priamries are specials, it is exactly how you say it. All primaries have a niche purpose which makes them more or less unreliable in certain situations (not to speak of the lag). Priamries should be good in 90% of encounters and in those other 10% I would whip out my special. At the moment it is vice versa IMO :/

If you're going to snipe, do it properly.

  • I do that a lot myself, snipe the body when you're up close and switch to primary. If someone is running at me and I know I won't be able to kill them in time with just my primary before they kill me, I will try to snipe them up close first. I played a lot of Trials last night, farming the gold bounty on two characters after going flawless twice over the previous two days. Playing Trials that much I think is actually bad for your health. There are two ways to play Trials these days. Camp spawn with snipers. Rush hard with shotguns. The amount of matches I played where people camped spawn with snipers was driving me insane. After getting so used to always sniping, coming across the odd team that would rush face with shotguns (and who were extremely fking good at it), we couldn't change to shotguns ourselves due to the stupid switching weapons ammo nerf.... And no point waiting for special ammo to spawn after switching because they were already in our face... It was just a really frustrating experience and I had to vent my complaints. I'm honestly fine with the way trials is. I'd prefer if you didn't lose all your special ammo when you switched weapons. I'd like revive shields to be a bit weaker... But all in all it's still the most fun gamemode when you're playing against teams who aren't full of freak snipers.

  • Did that sniper happen to be a defiance? And did that guardian happen to be a 334 titan? Cause that sounds dangerously similar to a play i made in trials with my red spec and defiance not saying it was me but very similar

  • It was Exodus Blue, but we won the map anyway. It was a pretty good Red Spectre. Had like Stability and Glass Half Full. I rushed him on their spawn which is opposite the tree/road barrier sniper cheese spot. I don't really blame them for doing it, I realize Red Spectre is hardly the best Auto Rifle for up close when compared to anything BUT a Scout Rifle. But it clearly illustrates the problem with the current weapon balance. I can't honestly say what Sniper it was, since it didn't kill me. Could've been a Yasmin. But I think it was either a 1K or a Longbow.

  • there will never be a fair game in Trials unless they make trials PRIMARY only. could you imagine a game where auto rifles, pulse rifles, scout and hand cannons are the only source? and exotics are banned from it. hmmm would that maybe be too much of godsend to have some damn balance. remove heavy (since its all Truth Rockets, and Quillims Terminus) and remove the aim assist 1000 yard stare and the "i can 1 shot you with conspiracy theory, but other way around you only get a nail fraction of my shield" thanks Bungie for shitting on those that want to really explore and enjoy your game while the elite trolls of Destiny take a dump and wave at the rest of us. you cant get better if you never had a chance. spawn sniping and taking a breath before youre annihilated isn't "get good" its bullshit.

I can kind of agree with some of this. I get the argument some people make when they say "Trials is for the PvP Elites," but truth be told I think that's bullarky. All of the endgame can't be Elitist trash. They need to create tiered rewards, like most other RPGs. Tier 1 gets the shiniest, godliest-looking version of the armor. Maybe an incremental boost to something negligible to reward their outstanding performance. Then everyone else needs to be sorted into one of the other categories present. I would guess only three are needed including the top tier: Adept, Novice & Initiate, from highest to lowest. The two lowest will be identical, except for their distinctive coloration differences. It's not impossible to give Elitist's their bragging rights and casuals their loot. It just requires a little bit of consideration and effort. This way, people can grind for a set of desirable PvP gear with aesthetics they can enjoy, without forcing ToO to change and basically have nobody feel special with the armor they earned because the matchmaking made it easier on them, making the rewards less exclusive. Still though, I've heard talk from streamers that Trials of Osiris isn't something they expect to see in Destiny 2. It harbors the most toxic of players and their opinions, and is probably the largest reason for nerfherders flocking to the Forums as they do.
