Optional Matchmaking I use to be like many of y'all slamming bungie for not making what seems to be simple maths. 1+1=2 But a user don't remember his name challenged me to a social experiment. Go run the raid and post for a group but don't add any conditions, in fact just take whoever wants to go. What you'll find is that it is impossible, mostly due to under leveled people, those who never played a video game before that day, players who somehow bought a xbox one that didn't come with a mic and the list goes on. Now for those dedicated fans who need to finish the raid you will eventually find a group to play with but the target audience "casual player" would have been turned off completely by now to the idea of playing the raid. So as not to cancel out the real revenue source they made it to where you have a better chance at completing the activity.

  • You can't have under-leveled people in matchmaking if you have level requirements.

  • At least it'd be an option. If you don't like the results, just don't use it, others will. I would mostly use for practicing the raid's mechanics; then I'd use a lfg site or forum (in-game function would be ideal).

  • Options arnt always the best thing, casual players will always take the easiest route. Games are like a tasting menu to them and a bad taste is spat out and never revisited. The option to matchmaker would become their standard and the outcome I mentioned above would become their standard reality. Which means more than likely a bad taste and no reason to buy dlc.

  • As it is, lots of people aren't even doing the Raids. In fact, lots of people have probably already quit Destiny because without optional MM they had nothing to do. So even if you're right, maybe it would have made more sense if Bungle hadn't done any Raids at all and had stuck to content where matchmaking works.

  • Well, I'm what most would call a "casual", since I don't breathe one game in particular, nor dedicate at least 8 hours of my day gaming that one title. I work at two jobs and my time is limited, but still, love to play games. I don't know what started this "casual" thing, because since I play, there were only people that liked games, and the ones who didn't. I bet it's a mmo thing. Anyway, everyone should be able to enjoy a game their own way. I for one love story-telling and in-game cinematics with a custom character, and couldn't care less for pvp. Do I think that a good pvp experience shouldn't be in games because of that? Nope...the more people can enjoy, the better. And I doubt an OMM system (a good one) would spoil dlc sales. Nerfs and split content does that job already.

  • This is exactly my point - it could be more damaging as it is beneficial without lfg support. The OP mentioned he has only ever completed 9 raids in total on Destiny. For those of us who like to complete it each week, every week on 3 characters this system, we can see how flawed this system would be - as we want to get it done quickly and with minimal frustrations People with no raid experience think it's just like a big strike with more players but it's really not. And as a raider, in my opinion, you should be considerate of other people's time and do a bit of research on the mechanics before joining a raid unless a Sherpa specifically says they are willing to explain everything to you

  • You wouldn't be forced to use it. You could still grab your fireteam or use lfg forums and sites. It'd be just an extra option.

  • Yeah I totally see that - like I said though matchmaking needs to be combined with Lfg filters. Neither is hard to do and it's arrogant of Bungie to ignore what is such a common plea. Also needs to be rolled out for ALL activities including trials and nightfalls

  • I totally agree. Some kind of filter is necessary.
