The reason why the Throwing Knifes at the start of vanilla Destiny to Taken King(or rather House of Wolves) doesn't exactly count as melee kill.

If there was one thing that Bungie did right it was that no class shall have two subclass that could one hit kill with just one ability(not talking about grenades). Now this is just info that I gather through seeing, trying, and testing. Now if I throw a Throwing Knife at a hunter with Don't Touch Me or a titan with ACD/0 Feedback Fence then their exotic armor perk will activate. So the Throwing Knife does count as a melee but for some reason doesn't count as melee kill when you get a kill with it. Now why would that be you ask? A single exotic piece of armor may be the answer. khepri's sting is an exotic piece of armor that can be use by all of the hunter's subclasses. Now what adds icing on the cake for this exotic is that there is hidden burn perk for Touch of venom that last 9 second; a melee with that burn will leave a player a small potion of health left by the end of the burn. Now the Touch of Venom burn perk was glitchy in the manner that it would proc when I wasn't camouflage on rare occasions. Currently the Touch of Venom burn perk(and sub-par Backstab) can't or rather won't activate with the Throwing Knife melee ability of Gunslingers'. Now image if a camouflage Gunslinger threw a Throwing Knife or worst camouflage Nightstalker with a Vanish Smoke threw a Smoke at the back of a Sunbreaker in Hammer of Sol which did 4x damage and got the kill. The Touch of Venom burn perk would make a Precision Throwing Knife a guarantee kill. Now I'll mention that getting a kill as of now with the Touch of Venom burn perk will activate Hungering Blade for Bladedancers. Now that would mean that a Throwing Knife to the head would would guarantee a kill and activate Knife Juggler for Gunslingers. A Throwing Knife with Incendiary Blade to the head would guarantee a kill if not leave enemy player at one shot body shot status that has Flame Shield, Blessing of Light, Resurrection-shield.(image rez-killing in Trials of Osiris then or on self-rez Warlocks) My theory or reasoning is that khepri's sting was already in vanilla Destiny just not release to public use. That they brought the hammer of nerf separation to the Throwing Knifes on a quick hurry and never test it out after that nor before release of House of wolves. Here is a link to see how much health is left when a Touch of Venom burn melee is executed at 3:42 of the video(this video is by no means mine): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=imqUE3PF8SY P.S. I'll try to test whether Touch of Venom burn perk works with Nighstalker's Smoke and with Smoke+Toxin. P.S.S. Sorry if this is unorganized and hard to read while also too long to read.
