It is a Valentines Day event. You are supposed to hook up with a partner. It goes completely against that idea if it's matchmaking.
Besides, it is not that hard to get the 1 person to join you. I, myself, and almost 20 friends on Destiny when I logged in yesterday, and more came on as the day progressed. And I only have about 50 people on my friends list, some of which I play COD with, not Destiny.
Heck, you could even fly down to the tower and msg random folk. It is easier to get a Crimson Doubles partner than it is too get 2 partners for Trials.
No more excuses OP. Quit your whining. Get out there, get a clan m8, friend, or even a random, and start playing the game.

So what is the difference with inviting random strangers to your fireteam in the tower to dedicated matchmaking?

You will play more than 1 match with tower randoms

Edited by Tomerick: 2/10/2016 6:37:10 PMYeah because matchmaking has nothing to do with a Valentine's theme. Literally no couples have met through online matchmaking services such as Tinder etc. Matchmaking couldn't possibly go with the theme...

Nah. Matchmaking is a 1 and done thing. You play 1 game, never talk to your partner or communicate in anyway, and then get a different partner next game and repeat the process. There is nothing valentiney about it. If you want matchmaking, play regular doubles. All u would be missing out on is some ugly shells. Or you could be a normal person and grab a friend/clan m8/tower random and do Crimson Doubles, instead of whining on forums. #TitanMasterRace

Yeah because the first person you meet with online dating is always the one you stick with for life. Could have been like speed dating where you stick with them if you think they're a good match. Hell you could have had rewards based on whether your partner thought you were good enough to up vote and stick with. But that would have took some effort. I'm not even that bothered about the matchmaking situation I played the event with LFG. It is the least of the problems this event has. The rewards are sub par, the bounties last 2 hours max and worst of all this was marketed as a big deal when it is at best a short term mildly entertaining diversion which would be OK if there was more substantial content to back it up. Also the lore suggests this event happens annually but for some reason not last year...

Edited by sholtan: 2/10/2016 6:27:45 PMYea, lfg makes it all so easy. All i wrote was 315 titan looking for guardian to smash with and instantly got an invite. Its kinda fun to meet new people, sure bungie could have put matchmaking but the tools the community built are good enough that i dont see the point anymore. People need to stop complaining so much, lfg is not an elitist only site, some people just want to have fun and help, just be honest in your imfo and its all good
