Best Saber Duel in Star Wars?
I've been binge watching Star Wars movies with my girlfriend in order to prepare her for the new movie as she had never seen Star Wars before. After re-watching all the old fights it had us arguing over which one was the best. I'm curious to see what the community believes to be the best fight in all the Star Wars movies.
As a side note I would like to apologize in advance for leaving out some of the fights. The options I listed were the most enjoyable and memorable fights to me and I'm sorry if yours didn't make the cut. If yours is not listed vote other and be sure to add it in the comments.
Edit: I forgot to mention what my choice for best saber fight is. My favorite has to be the Maul fight from episode 1. It has everything a saber fight should have and it culminates in the best finish to a saber duel among all of the movies
Edit 2: I'm very surprised to see Obi Wan vs Anakin winning. I assumed Luke vs Vader to be the most popular
Edit 3: So I finally saw the new movie and it was fantastic. It was no episode 5 but it was definitely far better than I was expecting. Sure a lot of the movie seems to be just fan service but what do you expect when it's been 10 years since the last movie was released

The Obi Wan vs Anakin fight was too choreographed; it didn't look like they were fight it looked like they were dancing. My favorite is the Luke vs Vader fight from VI because of how much emotion the fight had, you could feel Luke straying a bit to close to the dark side.

Anakin vs Obi wan was the only one that was a real competition. Plus it was cool since Obi wan didn't want to fight him and it was very depressing to see that Anakin was a monster now.

In my opinion, the duel between Qui-Gon-Ginn and Obi-Wan vs Darth Maul was not only the best duel, but THE vest scene in the whole franchise.

Luke and vader aren't winning because the obi and Anika's fight was better an i agree the old fights were slow, cool yes but slow

Luke and Vader in ROTJ! The score gave me goosebumps..... Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan vs Maul was great too cause Duel of the Fates.... Obi-Wan and Anakin was OK....

Ep. 7 Spoilers ahead: [spoiler]I liked the fight between Rey and Kylo. I know there were some holes there, but it just seemed like a real fight. Plus there was emotion behind it. Like I said, I know there are a few plot holes to be had, buy I just enjoyed it for what it was. Not saying this is my favorite, I just saw it today. Can't choose a favorite.[/spoiler]

Luke vs Vader 1. As for the prequels, I like the Maul fight. The Yoda vs Sideous is also one of the better done prequel fights in my opinion.

You're invested in these characters and on the edge of your seat wondering what's going to happen (upon seeing it the first time) Anakin vs Obi-Wan was super disappointing. It was flashy, over-choreographed, and entirely unbelievable, which took all of the tension and emotion away from it In fact all of the saber fights in the prequels were like that. They were kind of just there to show off, you didn't really care who won or lost. There wasn't enough investment in the characters to give a shit Force Awakens spoiler below: [spoiler]I also really loved Kylo Ren vs Rey. It was everything a classic saber fight should be. It was messy, not obviously choreographed, not stupidly fast-paced, and the tension and investment in the characters was there. Furthermore, it was the only real saber fight in the entire movie, so there was more buildup to it, which is reminiscent of the original films which only featured one major saber fight each.[/spoiler]

1 ReplyDarth Maul, guy was a beast, legit fended off a Jedi master and his up-and-coming Padawan (who later becomes one of the strongest Jedi masters) and kills one of them before being cut in half (sad day). Let's not mention he had one of the best sabers of all time.
