Guardian Background Check: Warlocks

What makes the difference between a Voidwalker, a Sunsinger, and a Stormcaller? They are all warlocks sharing the same inherent abilities of a warlock. They focus their light to become a destructive force of nature, channeling it into raw energy, turning the abstract into something tangible, and something so tangibly fatal. But why are they so different, one from the next? There is one theory that the difference between each type of warlock lies in the heart. Voidwalkers are typically calm but prone to being cold hearted and unfeeling. Sunsingers are typically passionate and caring, which also makes them prone to rage. Stormcallers are generally energetic, often times ambitious, and especially prone to being reckless and arrogant. Strategically, Voidwalkers make valuable assets near the front lines as overwatch. Their ability to step through the void makes them virtually untraceable to enemy snipers. Their ability to summon and throw the void in the form of a nova bomb makes them the obvious choice for taking down enemy heavy armor. However, in terms of personality, they tend to be cold and unfeeling. They are often criticized as being destructive in either speech or action with little to no regard for who they hurt. One common saying is that the void has taken over where their soul should have been. "One must be incredibly calm to brave walking through the void. One must harbor unparalleled resentments to throw it at his enemies." Voidwalker proverb. While they may never be the first choice on the offensive, Sunsingers remain as the ultimate last hope for any raid team. What makes them unique, not just among warlocks, but among all guardians as well is their ability to create life as well as destroying it. In fact, it is not uncommon for a female Sunsinger to be referred to as the team's mother. There is also some debate as to whether the Sunsinger is one or two subclasses given their dual nature of creation and destruction with fire. There are the Fireborn, who focus in the art of self-resurrection, and then there are the Praxic, who use their abilities solely for combat purposes. Regardless, all Sunsingers still share common personality traits. They are generally passionate about whatever they do and have a general capacity to care for the team. This also means that they can be wary of 'outsiders' and are prone to losing their temper when things don't go as planned. "The true power of the Sun is not measured in what it is capable of destroying, but in the countless lives it was responsible for creating and sustaining, but try telling that to a hunter or a titan." An Unnamed Sunsinger Only a handful of warlocks have ever learned to channel the raw power of the storm. The Stormcaller does not just use the arc to to release a brief burst of deadly energy, or to move much faster. They use the full potential of the storm to turn the fight in their favor. They are neither the overwatch nor the last hope like the other warlocks. Instead, they manipulate the flow of the battle as if they were the Fates themselves. Stormcallers are typically ambitious and always seeking new challenges, such as mastering the storm. Their power can often times make them arrogant, more so than other warlocks. However, for the most part, they do have an energetic nature, making light of difficult situations and living in the moment. Because of this, they often make reckless decisions with their only care being that they achieve what they set out to do, and they are certainly persistent. "Throughout history, inclement weather has always turned the tide of battle, but it remained beyond the control of mankind. No more. Now, I control the weather, and I can call forth the storms to drive out the Darkness." Sayd Khan Al-Qadir, Legends of the Storm
