I highly suggest Blu. Honestly, he's captured the true essence of what west coast rap should be. Mixture of jazz, soul, rap, and a little bit of funk. I've never seen another rapper with a style similar to his, and he's seriously underrated.
He's a really personal dude and a no bullshit kinda guy. On his debut album he actually says:
"See there's so many ways I could approach you,
I could either start off like "excuse me miss," but shit, that's too old school.
I could flow to you but that's too cliché, plus I don't bust just to bust nuts,
I bust over beat breaks.
I could be honest with you and tell you I'm a cheapskate, but, you probably seen me sharing drinks with my DJ, so
Frontin like I got chips is out the question.
And acting like my Benz is in the shop is outdated.
And I ain't in to playing games."
His works aren't as consistent as I want them to be, but when he gets it right...he gets it right.
