My friend got The Taken King 2 days ago, Digital Download and finished the story. I have just sent him my Referral link and it says.
'Your friend has yet to purchase and play Destiny: The Taken King. Once they have completed the necessary steps, you will be Linked Friends.'
Any ideas?

same issue for me! very frustrating

Hi Kdintranet, When purchasing Destiny: The Taken King, did your friend redeem all codes under their Referee account? Players must own Destiny: The Taken King under the account that is being referred in order to take part in this program. Accessing the game through console sharing features is not supported. For additional information on Referee accounts, please refer to this Guided Support Article: https://www.bungie.net/en/Help/Troubleshoot?oid=13997 For more information about the Refer-a-Friend Program, please take a look at the Refer-a-Friend FAQ: https://www.bungie.net/en/Help/Article/13962.

Will my friend qualify as a referee if he buys the taken king tomorrow? He already has destiny with expansions 1 & 2.
-
Same problem as the others. The page tells me "Your friend has yet to purchase and play Destiny: The Taken King . . ." We played last night, both on our own Xbox Ones, with our own complete versions of TTK (I've been playing since day 1, she just started 5 days ago). I contacted Bungie through their support system--we'll see what happens. I'll update if they get back to me.

What a clusterf**k this whole thing is!
-
Was the code for the dlc used while on his account or another? They have to have purchased the taken king on their account and not have shared it from another
-
It has been suggested that Privacy settings on your accounts has to be off ... I am pretty sure they were talking about the PSN/XBL accounts ... the consoles need to be able to share specific info.

I uave a problem...I can't find any new players to click my link and do the quest. This is really disappointing. Especially as I like to do everything I can on a game and hate missing quests
-
I got a refer a friend request and accepted. i created a new psn account and have destiny already downloaded to my ps4. has all dlcs already. but the quest wants me to buy the digital download. cant. help?
-
Okay....the message icon above, when you click it says "your friend has created a Bungie.net account but has yet to play the Taken King". All I can assume from this is that our friends first need to start up the game. I'm afraid to tell my friend to do this though since it says players are granted veteran status immediately upon playing. The phrasing they've used is very confusing.

My friend and I own physical copies of the game and we're still receiving the same message. "Your friend has yet to purchase and play Destiny: The Taken King. Once they have completed the necessary steps, you will be Linked Friends". How does that work?

BUMP. Same problem. Bungie please address this! I bought my buddy a brand new copy of the game yesterday and he booted it up, used his spark of light, and played the first Taken King mission. We used the refer-a-friend tab and yet it says that neither one of us has played the game. Money completely down the drain. He has no interest in the game, he just wanted to be able to help me out.
-
he must have played for at least a week for them to recive a refferal link
-
For the record, I was having this problem (as I earlier posted). I and my friend both submitted a complaint card to bungie from the Refer-A-Friend page and they fixed it for us within a couple hours. Thanks Bungie, we greatly appreciate it!

How do I get a refer a friend code???
-
I have a similar problem. My friend got a new xbox one and downloaded the free trial. A few days later I ordered him a used copy of Taken King from Amazon.de and had it shipped to him up in Denmark as a gift. He is absolutely a newplayer with only a level 8 character and we are getting the same response. He just joined bungie.net yesterday. I have my reciept for purchasing the game. Bungie is kinda messing up here because Ive begged him to play with me for over a year. Hes now an addicted titan.

Edited by Kissell: 11/24/2015 6:07:33 PMSame here, my friend has played, but I get the message "Your friend has yet to purchase and play Destiny: The Taken King. Once they have completed the necessary steps, you will be Linked Friends." and he doesn't have the quest at the speaker and it's been several hours this way, we've even resent a new referral link, but still same status. We're on PS4 with separate consoles and separate copies of the game both on physical disk.
-
Think you are being pointed in the wrong direction. I have read the faqs & I am reading that he has to accept the referral within 7 days of starting to play. Has your friend installed & played Destiny yet?
-
I WAS HAVING SAME ISSUE! REMOVE REFERRAL AND SEND NEW LINK! IT WORKED IMMEDIATELY FOR ME.
-
We're having the exact same problem over here! I feel like I'm losing my mind trying to get Help. Bungie is soooooo bad at Customer Service for this kind of stuff. Maybe the worst ever.
