Bungie, You Might've Gone Too Far This Time

In Year 1, we as a player base have put up with a lot. You took away the loot cave, the one thing the community created. Something that created friendships, created rivals, and brought a lot of people on hoping for that one golden egg. You took it away, and we all said "Well I'm angry, but you actually made purples drop purples now. They're rarer than they were, but at least I get good stuff now." You gave us the raid, gave us the hardest gun to achieve and brought it to it's knees just as quick. We all said "Yeah, a 50 mag size and higher time to kill than even auto rifles was a bit overboard. It was a super hard gun to get, but it does need toned down" We eventually said the same to auto rifles, but you kept nerfing them until they were trash. Weapons have unfortunately always been this way, but we've rolled with it because diversity. Except the hand cannon meta for 6 months. That was utter crap, and you know it. Shotguns are going the way of the auto rifle right now, and it's quite sad. We (Well, not we here, because I had no idea you could do this until after they patched it) used in game mechanics that make enemies back away from grenades to push off raid bosses. We said "That's fair, it was cheap and made the whole thing not seem as worth it". We then received The Dark Below, the most lackluster DLC for a game I've seen. We all said "Well it's out fault for buying the season pass. We should have waited". Then House of Wolves came out. We had no raid, the Prison of Elders and Trials of Osiris broke apart our teams we'd formed bonds with because we needed the best members because it was limited to 3 people. We said "I'm bitter about it, but they never promised a raid, so I guess it's fine" Then we hear about TTK. "Hey, people who haven't played yet! You can get everything that our 'loyal' customers have bought for a grand total of$140, for just $60 (Because our game had so many hostile reactions that the market value plummeted far more than any other game in a year)! We'll even give you exclusive rewards that those already playing can't get, they'd have to buy everything all over again to do so" We said "That's not fair Bungie. We deserve to get these things too for playing for so long!" And Bungie was like "We done goofed, 'loyal' customers, so here, for a simple $20, you can get some exotics, emotes, and shaders that you'll probably vault anyway." We became divided on this stance of paying for cosmetics that still permeates today. The majority however, whether reluctant or gung-ho, accepted it, and it stayed in. Then you decide to charge more money for stuff, even making the two things everyone wanted expensive enough people would have to spend extra money for them. We cried wolf, but were silenced by those saying "It's cosmetic. It isn't hurting the game, you don't have to get it, and it's not moving past cosmetics" Again, the majority has accepted it, maybe even spent some money, and moved on. And now, you do refer a friend. The majority of us have already gotten our friends to get this game long ago. We have formed out groups, and don't need more people in because we already have more than 6 we talk with on a regular basis. You make it so we can't get this stuff without paying for a second account to have PSN/Gold so we can get this stuff. But wait! For three easy payments of $49.95, they can be yours today! I assume this is what will happen within a few weeks. I had actually planned to make this comical using that part, but this just seemed like such a huge scam for more money I couldn't bring myself to do it. Bungie, you're treading on thin ice here with many people. Think wisely about how you want to play this out. And for the love of God, don't let Luke Smith or Deej say anything about this stuff. Both have been bad PR for a bit now, and you can't afford too much more. I don't want to quit this game, Bungie, but you're making it very hard to want to keep going with this middle finger you keep giving to existing players and free candy to the new ones. Eventually, you will run out of new players and by then the old ones will have probably left and won't be coming back. TLDR; Don't comment if you didn't read the whole thing. Edit: Holy butternuts, I've never had this many replies or upvotes before. I haven't had a chance to read/reply to everyone, and doubt I will, but for those who commented, good or bad, thank you for your input. Edit 2: Broke 1000 replies. Thank you all, both those who agree and those who don't. It's good to have the differing opinions, that's what makes us unique. I've been on a plane all day with no internet, so I haven't gotten to read everything from people, but I will try to go through and read all the posts, maybe make a comment or two.

    • - Legendary Edition of the game is nothing new in gaming. Every game that has a season pass/extra content will get a "complete" edition at some point in its life, usually about a year after release. Destiny was nothing new. Fallout 4 will get one that has the $50 Season Pass content in it for the price of what people paid at launch, that is just a fact of the industry. Will people piss and moan? No...because they will have already had a year's worth of fun out of the game and feel they've gotten their monies worth. If you played and complete Destiny/TDB/HoW and have more than say...150 - 200 hours of destiny logged, then you've probably gotten your monies worth. If you bought it all and didnt like it...then maybe you have something to complain about. Complete editions have been around for years, Destiny users are nothing special....stop acting like you got ripped off. - Refer friends schemes have been around for years as well, in many other mediums. In fact my Health Insurance company had a thing where if you referred someone to them and they took out cover....you got money for it. Did all the customers who didn't refer people suddenly start screaing "This is unfair! We want money too!"...answer is no. Stop being such cry babies. Its all cosmetic stuff that will no doubt be available at some point in the future for you to earn with the friends you have currently. Just look at the massive stink people kicked up over Year 1 exotics, petitions, hate, vitriol spewed, threats to quit the game....few months later everyone is gaga over the first batch that are being released. It was always Bungie's plan to release more over the course of time than just dumping everything out at once and then having you all complain that you've run out of things to do. Content will be made available at some point in the future. Seriously, the Destiny community runs in a cycle: Bungie does something -> few weeks/months of outrage -> dies down and people get on -> Something else happens, past dredged up -> Bungie does something -> etc etc etc. Forums here are just full of Drama Queens who feel the need to get on their soap box and bitch about something....anything. Dont like what Bungie is doing? Vote with your wallet and your playtime, otherwise....offer solutions instead of demanding Bungie give you everything for free, and then finding something else to complain about.

      • I get that you are disappointed. Let's make this all better for you. It's just a video game. If you are displeased, simply move on to another game. What we are dealing with here, is a generation of loudmouthed crybabies, who make mountains out of molehills. Call me old, but I remember a time when people knew a video game wasn't important. That it was meant for recreation. And if it wasn't good, or got boring, we simply moved on. Not now though. Kind of sad, actually.

        • They keep on removing quirks and things that are unique or special to Destiny, the Loot Cave, the heavy ammo glitch, shooting yourself in the foot, etc. They keep 'fixing' all of these things that weren't really game breaking and then making it harder to play the game the way we want, they want us to play the way THEY want, which really isn't that fun at the end of the day.

          • Some of your points are valid others make you look like a bitch. Loot cave was a broken mechanic, community bitches about nerfing guns and then bitches about said nerfs. Refer a friend is not a big deal and neither is cosmetic micro transactions. The majority of players don't give a shit.

                • Bungie is going to what Bungie wants to do. They know that Destiny brings in money and they are going to milk it hard. They might change directions if their actions prove to be too unpopular but as long as they have sheep buying their rushed products, they will continue on this path. I'm really debating if I will purchase any future DLC. Of course though, I will have to in order to play the freakin game.

"Hey, friend. Wanna come play Destiny with me? You haven't bought it yet either because you are not interested in FPSes or you've read over and over how bad it is. But nevermind either one of those unimportant realities. You'll love it, really. Come play Destiny with me, we'll have so much fun. And hey, I'm a vet, I'll show you the ropes, and we'll both get some really cool looking cosmetic gear that won't help you during gameplay at all. Yeah, good ole Destiny. A game where 90% of the game's content is obsolete. The VoG? Crota? Yeah, don't bother. None of the gear you get will be useful at endgame. PoE you say. Haha lol, kinderguardians, so naive. Yeah, none of that stuff will be any good either. You're lucky though, at least you didn't grind and grind and grind to get it only to have it be made obsolete. You are truly lucky that you have a veteran player here like me to save you the frustration and just tell you It's obsolete from the beginning. Yeah, you get one Raid, four Strikes, some laggy PvP.....aaaannd that's about it. You'll have to play them over and over, battling against two RNG's to rank up. One RNG for the item you need itself and another RNG to determine its light, Oh, and you're not guaranteed it will drop at a light level higher than your current one. But that's the fun of it....I think, it's like a digital slot machine...you like gambling with your time, right buddy? But hey, it's not about the gear or content really, it's about the moments we'll share together that's important here. So watcha say? Wanna come play with me?"

                  • They're marketing geniuses that prey on addiction. They purposely do this shit. They know everyone is going to complain so after they make all they can off of the people that don't mind being shit on they can come back with a "fix" making them look like they care about what we have to say. You can count on this happening many more times until people stop buying into it. That day may never come, unfortunately.

                    • I agree with everything except for the fact that other people dont deserve the same DLC for less. Whoever gave that mentality is absolute shit for brains. Do you really expect the same DLC value to remain the same? Im not sure a single game has contradicted that statement...

                    • This summed up what I feel so well.. I been playing since Alpha... I have put many hours into this game, only to keep paying more. My sister got into this game when Taken King came out and paid so much less compared to what I spent. Bungie does not care about their customers, they only care about what will get them money. I actually logged onto Destiny today for the first time in 2-3 weeks (been really addicted to final fantasy xiv) and only was on cause I have never got the Fourth Horseman. That was it. I am glad I am not the only one disappointed in this. I am glad people are trying to stick to it, but I am done with that game.

I've been on a plane all day with no internet, so I haven't gotten to read everything from people, but I will try to go through and read all the posts, maybe make a comment or two.[/quote]

                      • Excellent post. I left Destiny about a week before TTK hit and haven't looked back since. I keep hoping it will stop going downhill but obviously it isn't. Bungie is loosing loyal customers like myself who have been customers since the days of Oni and before. I can tell you right now that unless something DRAMATIC happens I will not be buying another Bungie product ever.
