This community is a battered wife and Bungie is the abusive husband....

Before I get started for those of you who are not aware I regret to inform you that Gamespot released an article today covering the future of DLC content in Destiny. This is a direct quote from the article.
Destiny's microtransactions and paid expansions are both selling well, Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg said on an earnings call today, November 3. As such, Destiny players can expect to see more of both in the future.
So the microtransactions....the microtransactions that were supposedly implemented to fund future content is going to stay....but we will all still have to fork out money for DLC. Yet there is very little outrage over this prime example of consumer abuse. So that brings me back to my analogy. The Kotaku article sheds light on the fact that Bungie and Activision cut up Vanilla Destiny to be sold separately. The forums barely bat an eye. The article shows that not only was the game cut up, but that it was cut up for the sole purpose of being sold separately at a premium just so they could squeeze more money out of us. Any normal community would have been up in arms over such a revelation. The torches and pitchforks would be lit and the forums would have burned to the ground. But no. Not this community. You all just shrugged and kept moving forward. Oh well. Its not Bungie's fault. Its all Activision. Bungie loves us and wants to be good to us they just can't. So I am just gonna keep playing and hope it gets better. I know Bungie can change. I kry errytim. Microtransactions are introduced into a game that most of us have paid over $120 for Once again mild outrage from a handful of players, but overall this community just rolls over and takes it in the ass with pleasure. Thank you Bungie senpai for this great gift. They cut content and set it aside to be sold separately at a premium YET AGAIN and no one seems to really care. Some even naively believe that the microtransactions would lead to free DLC in the future. The rest of you all just shrug and then say well its not Bungie's fault. Its cl;early just Activision. Bungie wants to love us and be good to us, but they just can't. So I am gonna keep playing and hope it gets better. I know Bungie can change. I kry errytim Every misstep and every abuse is almost immediately forgiven and shoved aside in favor of blind hope and naive support. Each and every time they abuse or take advantage of the community you all just shrug and make excuses for them. You say its not their fault or that its just how the game business works. Or that they HAVE to make money somehow right? NO OTHER GAME WORKS LIKE DESTINY DOES AND NO OTHER GAME HAS TROUBLE MAKING MONEY. PLENTY OF GAMES MAKE PLENTY OF MONEY AND STILL DON'T TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THEIR PLAYERBASE. Witcher 3 for example released over a dozen FREE DLC packs and their entire season pass was $25. The latest DLC called "Hearts of Stone" got a better review score than ANY of the Destiny content that has been released and yet it only costs $10. Bethesda is another prime example. They have released games like Fallout 3 and Skyrim all to critical and FINANCIAL success. They released quality DLC for a fair price and they made a FORTUNE. Bioware released Mass Effect 3 with quality DLC for a fair price and even threw in FREE multiplayer DLC packs every month or so. Yet it was the most financially successful game in the franchise. You people need to wake the -blam!- up and look around you. Look at all the games that have been released since Destiny launched and look at how many have used the kind of underhanded tactics that has been used with Destiny. Stop using "Business" as an excuse as if it alleviates ALL abuses. Stop using your hours played as an excuse as if you are in too deep to be treated with respect. Stop shrugging your -blam!-ing shoulders as if there is nothing you can do. Stop acting like there is nothing wrong. Stop acting like Bungie owns your -blam!-ing dignity and self respect just because you happen to like the game. And for the love of god stop forgiving them every single time they decide to abuse your trust as a consumer. You are just like a battered wife that loves her husband too much to realize that he is a steaming pile of abusive shit and that you can do BETTER for yourself and that you DESERVE to be treated better. For -blam!- sake.

Well, you're not wrong. - old

It's really funny. When someone in the community speaks up and stands up in arms, he's drowned in Bungie fanboys. Yet, Bungie still goes its merry way, and even though they're clearly making fun of us now, the community still bends over. Funny, not even the CoD crowd acts that way, and that's saying something.

      • So before I say the next bit, let me just say: -blam!- you. Seriously. -blam!- you. I've rarely met someone who disgusts me as much as you do. You just compared a videogame developer and a gaming community, to an abusive husband and his battered wife. Seriously, -blam!- you. And the last thing I want to say is that you should work on your reading comprehension skills if you think that's what the kotaku article meant. But given how weak this community is on that particular skill, I'm not holding my breath.

          • Deleted today. Sad but liberating. I played the poop out the game. I just hit a fun wall. The grind game was too much. I may come back next year but only after I'm totally wore out from playing Fallout 4 and MSV.

I find it funny how you base all of this off opinions. Also no other game works like destiny? I can name a ton of games that manage systems like this in pretty much the exact same way, warframe, cod: aw, wow etc etc. Also witcher didn't have free dlc, it had free cut content. You can't really compare an outfit or beard to an entire destiny dlc. And mass effect, yeah they did, bungie also gave you free money last month and promise more at Christmas, what's your point? Also yeah mass effect 3 was financially successful, only because of customer faith which was shat on right at the end of the game.

              • The microtransactions we currently have don't affect gameplay. Also, you don't have to buy them at all. I don't know where you got the idea that this would fund for future expansions. These microtransactions are meant for the smaller fun things in Destiny. ~TheGreatNike

                    • Who -blam!-ing cares! Buy dlc and micro transact if you want or don't. Play if you want or don't. No ones holding a gun to your head. Every single thing you purchase there is someone making a profit and I'm sure you have been ripped off before.

                        • I'll admit, I've spent $30 total on silver. I've bought the game twice. Once on 360, then on Xbox one. Bought all the dlc. Bought TTK twice cause I still have friends on 360 and you don't get the new expansion free upgrade anymore. I didn't like the idea of micro transactions coming to this game but when I saw they would fund the live team, I thought that this would help with things like getting real servers, and stabilizing those servers. As well as fun new events to take part in that would include story and new loot. I never thought that it meant free dlc akin to a full on expansion, but smaller frequent events to keep the game fresh and moving at a good pace. I've enjoyed the festival of the lost quite a bit. But, this event is purely tongue in cheek and fun based. There is no real meat to the event. The story missions are few and silly fun. But that's it, it's just an in game way of trick or treating and getting costumes that are cosmetic only. Fun, but not really satisfying. I expect there to be more events in the near future that are more in depth and hold more content with relevant rewards. Otherwise, I fail to see the point. It couldn't have taken that many resources to make three tiny quests and some poorly modeled/ textured masks. The emotes were very good though, but those are only for real money. I enjoy this game, but I will acknowledge that it gets stale too fast. I haven't manned to run the new raid yet, but even then I can't see it extending the life of the game by that much. Oh, I almost forgot the $130 bucks I've spent on destiny merch on the bungie store, lol.

                          • This is probably gonna sound crazy, but isn't it illegal what bungie and activision are doing? Shady business tactics. I think the American government can step in and actually clean up this practice just like they did when they forced the gaming community to put a rating on their games because of violence. Players who did not buy ttk are locked out of nightfall, crucible, dailies and vendors. So they paid maybe $80-$100 dollars for content that they can't even play. That sounds very very wrong. What does the community think about this? Think long and hard about this?

                          • Bump, most of these clowns don't get it. They forgive bungie for everything, even when they're clearly getting -blam!-ed. Weather it's the old raid glitches, year 1 weapons ot coming with us (all our hard work gone, community raged for 2 weeks then gave up and anyone who complained after that got raged at), weapon balance taking way to long to drop, the trials cheating, iron banner lagfest and telling us we'd have free dlc off the microtransactions only to completely flip around now.

                            • Just don't play the damn game... it's not like anyone is forcing you too. If it's not fun or you don't approve of the way they do shit. Just don't play. Like, I hate call of duty. It's boring, bad design, and just general lame and unfun in my opinion. So I don't play it.. It's a -blam!-ing video game, not some political situation. If more of youth here in America were this outraged and fought this hard about shady politics and government policies, maybe our government wouldn't be so -blam!-ed up. See, it's not that kids are lazy and don't care, they're just too damn busy being outraged at a game instead of something that actually matters. Well that was my rant...

                              • Wow, an Activision rep actually came right out and said that? I have to admire their honesty, but I loathe their arrogance. Problem is, there's a serious conflict of interest here. Obvious answer is to stop giving them money to play the game, but the game itself is tons of fun (for me), so that's not an easy option. Maybe we can hope that Blops III does terribly? I mean, I'm hoping for it anyway, but now I'm gonna extra-hope for it.
