What is the point of the Legacy engrams?
Everyone complained about all the best year one exotics becoming obsolete, but when they're given the fancy name of 'Legacy' Xur charges more for them than a year 2 weapons.
The only year 1 gun I feel I missed out on was the Necrochasm, which I don't really see the point in grinding for now that it will be like a peashooter. The engrams won't have that because it's a raid exotic...
For anyone who's bought one, is it simply to complete your collection, or is there something I've missed?
Edit - Thanks for everyone who'd pointed out it there's a year 2 version of the gun you can then use the blueprint, plus the crucible. I normally like to reply to everyone who's taken the time to comment, but I should probably get back to work :p

For collectors who never got a certain weapon. They then unlock the blueprint for that weapon which allows them to purchase a Year 2 version.

1 ReplyIf players who don't have the taken king still want access to exotics they can use from xur, legacy engrams allow them to still buy them. It also allows for year 1 weapons that collectors could never get their hands on grab that last piece of gear they might've been looking for.

It's for the collection, and to a lesser extent, to obtain certain guns for use in PVP as level advantages don't matter.

1 ReplyI took Nechrochasm into the crucible for the questline 6 kills with an AR. What a beast, it wrecks hard. The effects are super cool, it's the ultimate halloween gun when the explosion procs and you hear the spooky sounds.

10 RepliesExample; You need/want Bad Juju. But never got the quest for it Year 1. Buy legacy engram from Xûr and you might get it. Then buy the Year 2 version from the exotic kiosk.
