I don't like PvP and apparently that is NOT okay

I know its a lot of fun for some, but PvP is always maddening and frustrating for me and I avoid it whenever I can. That's why I always let out a few choice words whenever I am in the middle of a quest step to get something super awesome that I'd like to have suddenly leads into forcing me to do stuff in PvP. I might be the only one that has issues with this, but my enjoyment just drops once I see that "oh, you gotta do PvP to finish that thingy you gotten halfway on". @Bungie - do you really need to bar everything awesome behind a PvP wall? I am doing the daily PvP stuff, do you REALLY need to force me to play something I don't like even more? FYI I can tell you that I'm not getting more fond of it the more I am playing it. There is super awesome gear locked to PvP exclusively so do you really need to have everything else awesome have to go through it as well? Chaperone, the exotic swords, the rank 5 gunsmith handcannon. I suppose I could chose not to do them naturally, but when just about every cool weapon is locked behind PvP that is really reducing my options of cool flashy stuff. I beg you Bungie, for the future - stop locking so much behind PvP all the time - Have PvP exclusive gear like Iron Banner and such, but stop making most of the items have to go through PvP. Makes me a sad lion =C All that negative stuff said, I have to say that I do thouroughly enjoy the changes to the Taken King and how some of the unique item quest like "Black Spindle" and "Sleeper Simulant" works. These kinda things I love, great work all around! Edit: Wooh! Big subject. Bigger then I thought. Having hard time reading everything coming inn. One player came with the suggestion of having two ways of unlocking items. One PvE and the other PvP. Then players could pick which to go for. I like that idea. I get that PvP'ers aren't happy having to do PvE, same as I'm not happy doing PvP. I know what I like, but as some have pointed out, I can't expect Bungie to cater only to me. Thanks for a lot of feedback, I'm going to have to mull this over for a bit.

  • Would you rather they bar it behind a raid or impossible boss?

  • Couldn't agree with you more. I brought this up during vanilla Destiny when just about every exotic bounty forced you into PVP. Bad Ju Ju, Invective, Thorn. Weapons everyone spoke so highly about for me were near damn impossible to get. I praise Bungie this time to have some weapons part of story missions or hidden in secret areas. I've only gotten one sword because of the PVP side of it and more than likely won't bother with the others. I'd like to see Bungie do a forking quest line. Go the PVP route and you'll get this sword. Go the PVE route and we'll give you this sword. Stats could be identical, maybe have different skins on the models. Then you could just have "Kill 50 Majors" or "Kill 25 Guardians in Crucible." Just my thoughts.

    • I can't say I enjoy PvP all the time. But it is part of the game so I've just learned to play it. If you have half a brain you can adapt to it and do decent. I feel ya on getting those sword kills. I did not enjoy that.

    • I dont think the two options would work fairly. The two game types have very different skill sets. Take pve, crank up the difficulty enough and players hang back and go slow. But that's not an option in the crucible. There you need other tools, which is why I think they force it. So people get more of the experience. I understand people hate it. When it goes badly its the worst feeling ever. But I have seen time and practice turn people around who once hated it around. My self included. And when it goes well, it's one of the best feelings in the game. You seem about 6 hours in to pvp. It would be worth pushing on (normal game modes) until you learn the maps backwards, then the quests will get much easier. I love pvp, but hated the first part of the chaperone bounty. One is not the other.

      • Well, then they have to go through the trouble of creating a quest line for PvE (more lines for characters and more enemies to create (more money)) and for PvP (have to program more trackers for kills and such) What they have here is balancing PvE and PvP for everyone. Plus most quests are PvE so don't complain too much. Chaperone right now isn't the best (jk it's awesome) it's worth the grind with the LW but then you get to go Shield Brother strike. Exotic sword: mostly PvE but one section for 25 Crucible Kills... Most game: PvE very little PvP

        • I don't care if I'm forced to do pvp to finish a quest. I feel bad for my team though. They see me trying to kill people with hilt smashes for 10 minutes and probably -blam!-ing hate me haha

        • I understand that pvp is a really important part of the game. And even if I'm not a good pvp player I understand that they should cater to them as well. Maybe the solution could be too have two ways of obtaining everything, one crucible and one pve, so you can choose.

          • I didn't read your whole post but i do agree that you shouldn't have to go into pvp for important quests. If so then there should be an alternate choice where you could do something in pve instead.like a multiple choice on accepting said quest.

            • I used to like pvp. I can't stand it anymore. I'm not too bad either. So I understand what you mean. Since the quests have been made available, it's opened up a different avenue of enjoyment for me. The game is too slow now for effective pvp. No longer a fan.

              • Unfortunately because all our gear is shared inside the crucible and PvE there will always be a need to do at least some of both. This is also why destiny can't effectively balance one side of the game without breaking something on the other side. Imagine how much better destiny pvp could have been with dedicated crucible gear and dedicated pve gear, both unable to be used outside of their respective environment. I know they were trying to keep the whole "Build your own unique guardian to use in pve or pvp" but this is why they've been struggling with balancing issues since launch. This also why most exotics are limited to what they can do, with most simply activating a perk on your subclass for free. They can't add too many new exotic abilities without accidentally breaking the crucible.

I personally find PVP to be kind of boring and I don't put much effort into it, which is obvious from my K/D. I'm a PVE guy. I like the idea of two ways to get items, PVE and PVP. I could never play another PVP match again and I wouldn't miss it. That being said, I'm not going to knock those who like it. To each their own.

                    • I agree 100% on this. I dislike PvP but find myself forced into playing it. The simple answer is have different quest steps to obtain a weapon, a PvE quest or a PvP quest. You choose your path and then go from there.

I'm not a huge fan of Crucible either, I try to avoid it but play the Daily's and Iron Banner, that's enough for me. But, if Bungie just added a Playlist/Mode where the SUPERS were disabled I would play that. I think Supers Break the Crucible personally.

                        • Most games that have it as a option I will play PVP but I avoid it on this played abit in yr1 but I ain't good at it I tried the new modes once but apart from that I haven't touched it since the only exotic I had trouble with getting last year was thorn because of the void kills and the only void weapon I used in Yr1 was my prestige IV
