Why do so many guys play as female characters?

It's so confusing when someone joins a fireteam with a female character and ends up being a dude (*cue Aerosmith*). Do they all just want the D? But seriously, can any guys who do this shed some light on.. why? I feel like someone pulled an Oprah, "You get a female warlock, and YOU get a female warlock! Everyone gets female warlocks!" Edit: Jesus H. Christopher, I'm curious. I've noticed this quite often since I started playing, and I can't answer this question for myself, so I wanted some insight. inb4more "why do you even caaaaare?!!1!?!?" Edit again: holy -blam!-, I'm a girl. Hence why I don't have insight to why this happens. Edit, take three: thanks to everyone who gave a legitimate answer! I appreciate the insight :-)

Well, in my Hunters case: I wanted to create a new character for TTK. My wife is an amazing woman who's both understanding and patient with my gaming hobby. She's even supported it and asked questions about it. She understands my passion. Anyways, to honor her for that, I decided to make a character that looked most like her. I would have stuck with a human female but the Awoken face I found looked more like her. So I gave the character the most human like features (minus the glowing eyes [that was for fun - since Awoken don't have green eyes]) & wallah! My wife, the Awoken Huntress. :) P.S. It adds a little variety to the cosmetics. Which I like.
