Was it well deserved? Yes.
Is it a bit much to deal with? Yes.
Regardless of previous classes, no new subclass deserves to be overpowered.
Think about it, you have range and close up, with proximity, and INSANE armor.
I'm not for the Stormcaller nerf though, which we all know is gonna happen after Sunbreaker nerf.
Edit: Concerning the exotic gear for year 1, Titan's had TONS of great gear.

Ruin wings aren't just aesthetic. I love them. They're my fav armor in the game. I never run out of heavy! Raze-Lighter FTW for days!

Nighthawk knuckle head radar scarb gloves that gave gg stealth, and the boots that gave an extra jump.

Hunter exotics in year one were much better than titan stuff. Helm of Saint-14 is really awesome, but everything else was pretty much trash. Hunters got sweet helmets across the board, and Don't Touch Me made Crota's raid a joke. Advantage Hunter
