You guys do know that in gameinformer article, it talks about how master chief "dies", but then reappears months later attacking a covenant peace treaty delegation. He isn't dead, but something happened.

The peace treaty delegation happens before the events of halo 5. He was never thought dead, but he did disappear for awhile.

The peace treaty happened in season 1 of hunt the truth. He was just declared dead in the previously released episode of season 2, which takes place concurrently with halo 5. He's not dead, it is likely a cover up for his desertion.
