This is actually the first time iv disagreed with you lore wise. The traveler didn't save us. Rasputin did. By DESTROYING the traveler! It basically says so in the Grimoire. When the darkness arrived The Traveler attempted to abandon us and flee (just like it did with the Fallen right before the Whirlwind) but Rasputin realized what the Traveler was trying to do, understood that if the Traveler was allowed to leave it would mean certain extinction of the human race, and thus ordered an anti matter bombing strike on the traveler itself, crippling it and preventing it from running away again. This is what saved humanity from the Darkness.

It all clicks! The Traveler is actually just using a really good gaming strategy. It lets the Darkness get close to him, he strikes, and then runs, slowly destroying the Darkness. I mean, in some grimoire cards the Traveler is standing up and attacking the Darkness and in others it's retaliating. It all makes sense!

Considering this post was made before that grimoire card was made available, I think you can overlook the difference of opinion
