The Average Player Guide to Chaperone

Hello, recently I completed the Jolly Holiday quest for the Chaperone and I'm now just waiting for the weekly reset to get this beautiful gun! I'm an average player in the crucible, my kdr is somewhere around 1.2 you can see that in my stat page. As an average player at first I thought this quest was ridiculous so I abandoned it instantly. But then I felt I was being a coward and that I should at least give it a try. The first step is the hardest, the rest are extremely easy. Shinding in the crucible: Kill = 1% Death = -2% Headshot kill = 2% Kills with any other weapon, ability, grenade or super count towards your progress. Muktikills, streaks and any medal awards bonus points. This is what you want to do to complete it. If you don't get these medals you'd be ending up with null progress or negative progress. Easiest playlist for me was Rumble. Pros: Very few players, not chaotic at all encounters are usually 1v1. Many people doing the sword quest. Cons: Special ammo is scarce. Build I used: Primary: The Last Word (duh!). Special: Fusion Rifle from gunsmith's rewards. Heavy: High stability high impact machine gun. (This will make you get that progress bar to advance in great chunks). Some people also used sniper as special but if you're average as me then you will have bad aim and possibly get very few kills. Some people also say shotgun is good, but my reasoning behind using a Fusion is that it is better in mid range situations. Con is if you miss your shot you're dead. Tip #1: KEEP CALM. Seriously, you can't start this quest if you already feel defeated or frustrated. Breath before each game and say "everything's going to be alright" this worked a lot for me. Breath and relax. Chill out. Tip #2: PLAY SMART. This quest will make you learn how to play smart, choose your encounters turn bad situations into advantageous situations. Don't rush it. Just sit back, pick your spot and apply tip #1. Tip #3: ORBIT. Orbit is going to be a saver many times, if you end up in a map you don't feel comfortable don't worry go to orbit and swap playlist from Rumble to Competitive Rumble. If you get in the same playlist it'll send you to the same game! Situations in which you want to go to ORBIT: 1. Bad map. 2. Got two or three deaths in a row. (chill don't worry about that 6% lost and try again). 3. Enemy got all the heavy ammo. 4. You can't find special ammo. How to play? Get in a spot near the heavy ammo, you can't afford to lose the heavy ammo. Losing heavy ammo = losing progress ^2 Camp that spot, crouch if you can so you stay out of the enemy radar for longer. Don't sprint unless you're escaping. If you see many enemies in your radar RUN AWAY. If you're getting shot from afar RUN AWAY. If your enemy has heavy ammo RUN AWAY. If your enemy has Super RUN AWAY. You want to stay alive at all costs. Once you pick that heavy ammo up KEEP CAMPING and KEEP CALM. enemies will continue coming for you, just clear them out and stay clear of corners and bad narrow hallways. Medals will start popping up and your progress will increase considerably. If you achieve this, chances are you charged your supper after your heavy depletes, so use that super to continue your streak AND HOPEFULLY get a second heavy ammo pick up. Don't look at your KDR it's misleading. I ended games having 4+ kdr (applying this technique) and still had null progress because I lost my streaks. So remember streaks and multikills is all that matter. By applying these tips and tricks my progress was: 10% - 77% - 42% (at this point I knew I had to change my mind set and I starting doing what I've written in this guide) - 72% - 86% - 100%. I did that throughout 3 days and in approximately 20 crucible games. Don't let people put you down with their "I DID IT IN 2 GAMES GIT GUD" "EASIEST QUEST YOUR BADDY" "I DID IT IN 1 GAME LAWL" for us the average player it takes a lot of effort and concentration. You don't have to "git gud" just need to play smart and relaxed. The rest of the steps are easy so I won't get into that. Work arounds: 1. Equip TLW until you have picked heavy ammo. I tried this a few games and it works but it's hard to be swapping in and out the last word. And progress will go forward in smaller 10 or so percent chunks (unless you really go into an insane streak). So I would recommend this as a last resort. 2. Equip TLW when you have super. I used golden gun so this didn't work for me. Using hammer or storm might be better. Things I never tried and people say it works: 1. Equip TLW before you win a game, it I'll award you 5%. This would take you 20 winning games. Regards Guardians!
