I'd assume the divided player base is contributing. this is the first time there is a huge difference between players and the season pass pre order hype train is gone.

I suppose it could be - though hopping in matchmaking and getting any of the new strikes is almost instant for me - the refill however is not. If the population in the ques was an issue i'd expect the initial search to be slow going too perhaps?

The only thing I can think of is that it is using the people who are in que to fill new teams. Though, I have seen this throughout my entire time with Destiny. I rarely have seen anyone join my friend and I after a drop out. To me, at the current time, it seems that the servers load has dropped a lot due to dividing the player base so, it still is just making full teams without excess. Therefore, no one extra to drop in current games? I don't have a degree in networking players together =/. Wish I did though.

I used to see players dropped into ongoing Strikes regularly, even though I never did all that many Strikes. I haven't run more than 2 Strikes since Taken King, so I can't say whether it's still working, but it used to happen.
