The Taken King is worth the money I spent, all $60 of it.
Here's what I base toss opinion on.
This past week I was ill. Nothing serious, just some heavy chest congestion. But, the result was that I basically did nothing but play the new expansion starting literally when it launched at 4am central US time.
Yes, I have a life. It just want active while I was sick. Bear with me.
I spent 21 hours the first day. After that probably 16 hours each day until this morning when I was well enough to get to work.
That's a lot of play time.
The story mission were short, but at least there was a passable story this time. I played it through three times, one each character. I've been playing the quests, farming the Dreadnought, even played some crucible. I had a lot of fun (besides coughing up phlegm).
I like the weapon progression, I like the armor I like the new leveling / light system. I like the new quest system. I like that you get your ass kicked if you ignore the light recommendations. I believe this was time and money well spent and I've barely scratched the surface of the content.
Does it make up for the launch? No, it doesn't, I won't ever forgive Bungie for failing to disclose to us what happened. But, this now feels more like a reboot than just an expansion and it at least tells me that maybe they're trying to make amends even adjacent of an admission.
Happy playing.
