Books Of Sorrow. The Hive weren't always evil, they were deceived/influenced by the Worms (So far, they could pretty well be the Ahamkara)

-THIS NEEDS TO BE BUMPED, STICKED AND TRENDING!!- So, i just read the Books of Sorrow, three Krill (original race, pre-Hive) one named Aurash, another named Xi Ro and a third called Sathona, all are female as written in these grimoire cards, children of the Osmium Throne Their homeworld is The Fundament, they've set to delve into the Deep (core of the planet) to find some sort of secret power that would help them get revenge and regain their rightful place, after Taox (said Teacher to them at the time) plotted to have the Helium Court kill the kings heirs (which failed BUT the King being assassinated), thus after having found the Needle, a ship, found in the Shvubi Maelstrom, along past layers of the core they would come across an entity called the Leviathan that would guard it (The Deep), in this core are trapped the Worms Xol, Eir, Ur and Akka Aurash, Sathona and Xi Ro all ingest a worm. Each gaining a new name for their adulthood, Aurash becoming Auryx and undergoes a transformation called King Morph. Together they would slowly become more powerful, killing other species to feed the hunger of the worms (given to them by the Ahamkara) thus making them stronger in exchange but making the Worms grow more hungry. -Auryx, later then known as no one else but Oryx, The Taken King (in other words btw, Oryx is a female lol...) Edit: HOLY SHIT !! http://www.halopedia.org/Ecumene http://db.destinytracker.com/grimoire/enemies/books-of-sorrow/xxix-carved-in-ruin LOOK AT THAT LITTLE HALO/DESTINY UNIVERSE CROSSOVER (could be IF these Ecumene in the Destiny lore is the same beings as in Halo, because in Halo the Ecumene are basically the Forerunners) Edit #2: getting pretty tired of people saying "hurr Oryx isn't a girl", well ffs yes IT was a SHE back when IT was two years old at the beginning of this story depicted in these grimoire cards. I'm also tired of all these " derp da Ahamkara are dragonnzzz hurrrr" so far we've not seen what they look like other than bones, but these worms sure asf speak like Ahamkara, have god like powers like Ahamkara, can even speak/influence even AFTER death like Ahamkara and also are deceitful beings.. Promising power in return for some sated appetites. So far, what's written here quite weights in the direction that: yes they could pretty much be these beings we call Ahamkara

  • In defense of those who say oryx is a he and not a she. they all refer to it as a "he" in the game, and it says in the grimoire card stories that he takes on a hive mother of sorts to have crota, ir anuk, and ir halak. Not on any sides here, just thought this worth pointing out. My personal opinion is that either hive are like some species of amphibians, who can change gender at will. Either that, or the larvae was male, and it made oryx a male upon insertion.

      • Oryx isn't a girl though. It's not like he had a sex change operation. He was changed, on the basest level, into a male. He was literally able to impregnate a female.

      • There isnt a cross over. Do your Halo Research. An Ecumene and Ecumene council are terms used to describe a collective or civilization, and its Governmental body. The forerunners could NEVER be wiped out by the Hive or their ancestors. As we all have seen. Lasers destroy Hive. Oryx Vs Sleeper simulant = Dead Oryx lol

      • All of this is extremely fascinating. It's a shame it's buried in Grimoire and not in game. With cutscenes. Or in a Codex in a panel at the Tower.

I'm glad I'm not the only who got this. Not only that but from what I understood frome reading the grimoir, there was some sort of split or division (civil war?) within the hive. Are guardians and the traveler the "bad guys?" I don't think so but I think we're gonna find out we're probably fighting for the wrong cause or side. Or for entirely wrong reasons.

        • Its nice to see these posts so others can find out about this amazing lore. I knownit but cant be bothered to write about it all so this makes me happy. On a side note, i see the worms as our greatest enemy as they can give the same power to other races that they gave to the hive. As far as i know, only the worm Akka died (by oryx's hand) so the other are still.... alive? Im also curious about if and when we'll meet savathun and xivo arath.

        • I'm suprised no one has mentioned Verse 4:2: Majestic. Majestic. yet. It's the only card where the "deep" (darkness?) talks with Oryx.
Oryx, my King, my friend. Kick back. Relax. Shrug off that armor, set down that blade. Roll your burdened shoulders and let down your guard. This is a place of life, a place of peace. Out in the world we ask a simple, true question. A question like, can I kill you, can I rip your world apart? Tell me the truth. For if I don’t ask, someone will ask it of me. And they call us evil. Evil! Evil means ‘socially maladaptive.’ We are adaptiveness itself. Ah, Oryx, how do we explain it to them? The world is not built on the laws they love. Not on friendship, but on mutual interest. Not on peace, but on victory by any means. The universe is run by extinction, by extermination, by gamma-ray bursts burning up a thousand garden worlds, by howling singularities eating up infant suns. And if life is to live, if anything is to survive through the end of all things, it will live not by the smile but by the sword, not in a soft place but in a hard hell, not in the rotting bog of artificial paradise but in the cold hard self-verifying truth of that one ultimate arbiter, the only judge, the power that is its own metric and its own source—existence, at any cost. Strip away the lies and truces and delaying tactics they call ‘civilization’ and this is what remains, this beautiful shape. The fate of everything is made like this, in the collision, the test of one praxis against another. This is how the world changes: one way meets a second way, and they discharge their weapons, they exchange their words and markets, they contest and in doing so they petition each other for the right to go on being something, instead of nothing. This is the universe figuring out what it should be in the end. And it is majestic. Majestic. It is the only thing that can be true in and of itself. And it is what I am.

I maybe wrong but I think think this is the first time we actually hear the true darkness speak. And it seems to be all about 'survival of the fittest".
• Bro...The worms ARE WORMS. There are Worm larvae on the dreadnought, however full sized worms from the Hives home planet are huge, terrifying and have unspeakable power. We learn from Ghost that The Worms are ancestors to nearly all life in the universe, which means are literally a primordial evil and possibly the source of the Darkness. The Ahamkara arrived Waayy before the Hive around the Golden Age. The Hive underwent their transformation and pact with the worms millions of years ago and this affected ALL Hive. The Hive are Humanoid and they probably even resembled humans before plunging into darkness. The Ahamkara were terradactyl looking creature judging by the baby Ahamkara bones on Bad Juju and the Young Ahamkara spine.

                  • What i noticed though. Almost all of the ahamkara items say something along the lines of teeth, power, violence. Worms, just like some raid gear from crota and oryx...are hungry. Could we possibly be dealing with the seven deadly sins? Just how powerful are the ahamkara. How powerful are their tounges to have persuaded warlocks....? When will the ahamkara appear more to us? also...Are titans might too powerful for the ahamkara? They have no gear saying otherwise. Hmmm...

*LONG POST* I wonder if you can call them evil even now. Sure in everyone else's eyes they are, but let's see: They were a race of creatures that lived only for 10 years at best (except some dudes like Taox) and everything in their world could kill them. The Traveler was hanging out in their planet's orbit, disguised as a 53rd moon and caused enormous tides that swallowed their people. They meet the Ahamkara who speak for the Deep and they promise power in exchange of them to keep on doing what they do best: to inquire and explore, to experiment and theorize, to hone skills and make war (Oryx, Savathun and Xivu Arath respectively). As long as they kept doing that the worms would be fed but they grew ever hungrier and if some day the 3 couldn't satisfy them anymore, they would be eaten. As things develop, their belief is one that they should ascend creation to the highest plane possible so that they would not need to rely on anything else but themsleves, and they acquired such status by extinguisihing less evolved beings and thus feeding their worms. That's more or less what I have figured out. By the way, the books of sorrow story is pure gold.

                  • Last line of Verse 1:5 — Needle and Worm "The worm — Carved in my code by Sathona — Who should be afraid — "1. It was my father’s familiar. I ripped it from him as we fled. It is a dead white thing, segmented, washed up from the deep sea. 2. It’s dead, but it still speaks to me. It says: listen closely, oh vengeance mine..." Sounds familiar. Ahamkara came from/with the void, meaning they are formless... meaning they can take any form they want.
