Catholicism was the first form of Christianity...then the great schism happened and poof eastern orthodox in 1045 (something like that)...then Martin Luther and the Lutherans came about like 500 years later. ( since then tons of different flavors of Protestant have arose) Sounds like your friend is extremely ignorant of Christian history if he thinks Catholicism isn't apart of Christianity

Technically no, The catholic religion was created by Constantine (i think thats how its spelled) Nearly 300 years after Christ's death, which was combined of Multiple different pagan beliefs having nothing to do with Christianity. Like Christmas-Pagan. The Roman Catechism states its the only church of God, and many other unbiblical statements which i have covered: https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/152159427/0/0 Now I'm not saying Constantine was bad, I'm sure his intentions were good but in the process confused millions of people and skewed many teachings of the bible Before you reply to this please read the Whole link, not just to where you may disagree.

  • Christianity as we know it today, would not exist without Catholicism. Period. The development of Protestantism and Lutheranism were directly in response to Catholicism. This idea that closeness with God doesn't need to be done through the church" is thanks to splinter groups like the Quakers (1650'ish). Which for the record other Protestants (not Catholics) thought were blasphemous and accused them of rebelling against the social order. You may disagree about whether or not Catholicism is apart of Christianity based on scripture but history clearly shows that it is, and still is apart of Christianity. Many of the aspects of Christianity as you know it would not exist without Catholicism.

  • Exactly. I have given this guy facts in regards to all that. He denies them and refers to interpretation of scripture alone, which further comes down to opinion. He can't grasp the opinion versus fact thing.

Here is some scripture describes you and what i should do “Even when the fool walks along the road, his sense is lacking and he demonstrates to everyone that he is a fool.” ‭‭Ecclesiastes‬ ‭10:3‬ ‭NASB‬‬ http://bible.com/100/ecc.10.3.nasb “The wise man's eyes are in his head, but the fool walks in darkness. And yet I know that one fate befalls them both.” ‭‭Ecclesiastes‬ ‭2:14‬ ‭NASB‬‬ http://bible.com/100/ecc.2.14.nasb “The wisdom of the sensible is to understand his way, But the foolishness of fools is deceit.” ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭14:8‬ ‭NASB‬‬ http://bible.com/100/pro.14.8.nasb This is you:
“A fool does not delight in understanding, But only in revealing his own mind.” ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭18:2‬ ‭NASB‬‬ http://bible.com/100/pro.18.2.nasb “He who conceals hatred has lying lips, And he who spreads slander is a fool.” ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭10:18‬ ‭NASB‬‬ http://bible.com/100/pro.10.18.nasb “The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, But a wise man is he who listens to counsel.” ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭12:15‬ ‭NASB‬‬ http://bible.com/100/pro.12.15.nasb
“Leave the presence of a fool, Or you will not discern words of knowledge.” ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭14:7‬ ‭NASB‬‬ http://bible.com/100/pro.14.7.nasb The catholic religion is many things: >Full of Pagan beliefs >Money and Power Hungry >The popes are false teachers in many ways (not all teachings but in many) >adaptive

Hey bro, Nothing anyone says but God will change your mind, you're clearly bias about this, nomatter how many Proofs i give or could give will change your mind. God has the power to do that, i pray he will, but as far as our "dispute"... Im done. Not because you won, that's not for me to decide only God can decide that-and He will, But because as i said: you're bias about this... Im wasting my breath.

  • You are wasting your breath. Because you don't understand basic theology. Your proofs are not fact. They are verses. They are no more fact than something written in a Harry Potter book. The fact that you cannot tell what is an actual fact and what is an opinion based on interpretation is proof you have no understanding and therefore have no valid argument. In other words you have lost by default.
