Yes and no, though catholics believe in God and believe that Jesus is the son if God and that Jesus died on the cross and came back to life three days later, and then went to heaven, catholics do have one major technical stain when looking at the bible. This mainly has to do with their pope, the pope is said to never be wrong (at least in accordance with Catholic doctrine), the pope also tends to be given a very high station, usually above that of regular people (said to be closer to God). However this does go against many things in the bible. So it depends on each persons definition of what it means to be christian. If the only requirement for being Christian is what i stated earlier (about Jesus) then yes catholics are Christian, but if your definition of Christian is more to dd with following the Bible and believing in everything stated earlier, then Catholics may not fall into the category of Christian. I for one can not say for curtain because i am not God, i do not have infinite knowledge, and therefor i can not pretend to make a final judgement. For me personally i view this kind of thing more in degrees, so for me Catholicism is on the edge of Christianity due to putting a human close to the position of God (only God can not be wrong).

  • Catholicism is the original church, so calling them anything other than christian is 100% wrong

  • Not true, Church existed before Catholicism. Not to mention that many of the problems with the catholic church where not their originally, they came about during the middle ages. Jesus did not assign a pope, other people did. The original version of christianity is that lead by the apostles after Jesus went back to heaven, the apostles did not claim to be a group called catholics, they claimed o be follows of Jesus, they claimed to be Christian.

  • They declare that the Pontifex is not wrong about spiritual matters because part of Catholic doctrine holds that the Pope is guided directly by the Holy Spirit.

  • Yes however then they go on to claim things like science as spiritual matters (especially in the past), hence the reason for the catholic church put Galileo on trial (and to this day have not admitted to being wrong for doing so). This same doctrine also permitted them to constantly interfere with political affairs, even down to who was appoint a knighthood. Though it has changed in recent years, this doctrine is still active, and even the idea that they could never be wrong in spiritual matters goes against the bible, only God can not be wrong (in both spiritual and non spiritual matters).

  • You are openly using opinion. To you they are on the edge of Christianity. Fact, they are the largest denomination of Christianity. And by that, it means they are Christian.

  • I didnt say they werent Christian, on the edge is still apart of it. However they have problematic doctrine that is very non Christian that came about during the churches power struggles with the monarchs during the medieval era (this is where things like the doctrine that states that the catholic church can not be wrong came about). Also if you would like another fact, just because something is the largest group, does not make it the perfect representation of that group, there are also groups like the Mormons who are on the edge (putting John Smith at the same level as God is not good), then there are even groups that say they are Christian but do not believe that Jesus actually died on the cross (this goes against the very basics of what it means to be Christian, so i would not count them as Christian), there are many different groups of Christians, this is one of the reasons i personally view it in degrees, rather then a simple yes or no, there are multiple degrees that fall into yes.

  • Once again you said they are not Christian IN YOUR VIEW. That is YOUR opinion. Opinion is not fact. I never said Catholics were more or less Christian because they are the largest denomination. I simply said they are the largest denomination and they are Christian. Both of which are fact.

  • I just said in my earlier statement that i didnt say they were not christian, just like i said before, on the edge doesnt mean they are not still christian. I would personally say they are but they are most certainly not the example of what it means to be Christian that one should go off of, and they are walking a fine line on the border. Due to the fact that they do not pit the pope directly on the same level as God then i would call them Christian, but they are on the edge of it, unlike Mormons who i consider on the opposite edge, because they do put John Smith on the same level as God (judging you at the end of your life).
