More than a game..

I have seldom played any games. A few months ago my teenage son asked me to play some Destiny with him. Since that time I have been hooked. I have experienced the odd server issue like most but I cerainly understand the IT issues that would accompany this type of service. I recently purchased another xbox one console solely for Destiny and my own account so I no longer have to share gardians! Point is, Destiny has brought my son and I closer than we have been in a long tme. We both enjoy our time on the game, it gives us some common ground for open discussions which allows us to discuss other issues. I never thought that online gaming would be a seguay for improving a father son relationship but this has certainly worked for us...

  • I have enjoyed gaming with my boys for the last few years. Whether it be, Destiny or COD.

  • Destiny is a 2 edged sword, you like it and you have fun great! You hate it then thats bad. And coming from Bungie, Bungie had a good reputation for making awesome games *Insert Halo* and making Destiny was a dream for every halo fans, but alot of people got disapointed, destiny is still good, but from the hype they made its nothing compared to what they promised years ago, add the lies and no communication from them. Then its just a big pile of negativeness.

  • As much as I hate the new changes being made for TTK and feel like I'm really not going to be able to stomach more than a week or two of it, I must say that my father and I have had a similar experience. We live about a hour apart and rarely meet in person, but every Tuesday we run 3x Nightfalls and 3x Weekly Heroics. We used to run Raids or Prison of Elders nearly every day until they announced that they are making all of the year 1 gear and content obsolete. We have become Legend together and tell each other about new weapons and perk combos we've come across. We have helped each other get the best gear in the game - Fatebringer, The Scholar (Adept), Timur's Lash (with Outlaw, Field Scout, and Crowd Control), Efrideet's Spear (with Surplus, Field Scout, and Clown Cartridge), Jolder's Hammer (with Persistance, Field Scout, and Crowd Control), Radegast's Fury (with Tracking, Javelin, and Tripod). We also both have complete Exotic collections as we've been playing since day 1. He doesn't play Trials of Osiris, but I played on his account one weekend and got him to the Lighthouse - he got an Arc damage The Scholar (Adept). That made it easy to kill Skolas so I did that on his account for him too and he got a Solar damage Six Dreg Pride II (Hand Cannon). We've had some really great memories in Destiny, but I'm afraid that is going to end soon. They are making too many bad design decisions. My father is a long time Call of Duty fan and I'm a long time Halo fan. I'm not sure if he's excited for the next Call of Duty, but Halo 5 looks amazing... Bungie, get your heads out of your asses and allow infusion on year 1 gear!

  • You must lack parenting skills if it takes a game to be able to relate to your son.

    • If destiny gets you two bonding you should try an actual good game. Now that will take you a long way.

With us. Unfortunately he was so fed up with his stuff being ditched for year two on his hunter that he doesn't want to play the game now, what with social media as it is he understands what bungee is doing and feels bored with it... I am proud he has worked it all out..shame though it was fun why it lasted....tag teaming on an iron banner event was great fun;) I feel so proud of him for making this decision

    • +1 For good parenting. I always wanted my father to play games with me, but he couldn't be bothered to learn.

      • Would have worked with anything your son was interested in Destiny was just a catalyst in this case. It's nothing more than any game ever made or any activity or conversation that has sparked a deeper relationship between two people. But congrats.

Maybe you should go outside and play sports with him instead. Just joking. Destiny is totally awesome when weather outside is bad.
