I've been wondering how Variks lost his arms. In the Grimoire cards I've read, it never mentions when or where it happened, or how he got the mechanical replacements. It seemed strange that it was his upper arms that were removed. A couple cards say dregs that prove themselves are allowed to regrow their limbs (though one grimoire card from the point of view of a dreg says "fabrication" which may or may not be a translation problem). I figured the docking caps they have are being used to suppress regeneration. Taniks would have to be doing something similar voluntarily in order to keep using his mechanical limbs. Variks doesn't seem to be regrowing his arms though, which I first thought maybe he needs more ether (which would also explain dregs being allowed to regrow limbs; they are given more ether), but if this was the case then Taniks would be regrowing his limbs even though he wouldn't want to.

If you notice, Variks has his top two arms missing, while dregs are missing they're bottom two. I think this might be important?

Adding on to Blitz's reply, and knowing Skolas, he probably ripped off Variks's arms and left him for dead

Edited by Blitz2397: 9/4/2015 5:41:31 AM(It does seem that Variks is ashamed of only having two real arms. The reason I think he cannot regrow his arms is because of the docks on the stumps. I think they can only be removed by a Captain or Kell (don't know how). Instead he attached artificial arms onto the docks to try and regain what he lost. But these are hollow replacements and he knows it. As for how he lost his arms I believe that Skolas discovered Variks' treachery at some point before the Reef Wars ended and cut off his arms. I think this information is in one of the Grimoires but I'm not sure.)

Remember, the Fallen worship machines. I wouldn't be surprised if Variks just didn't want his regular arms back.

Maybe, but based on one of the Grimoire cards I've seen from his point of view, it seemed like he was ashamed at being reduced to only two normal arms, "like a dreg".
