Just lol@everyone saying "it gives us time to gear up", as if Bungie actually cares about that. Bunch of naive teenagers on these forums.
The fact is, Bungie withholding it from Day 1 means 1) they're not actually done tweaking it yet even though they've had a year to work on it, or 2) they know that people would be able to beat it within the first few days of release, so they're artificially extending the life of TTK's content. It's that simple.
If you think it's going to take people longer than a week to gear up, lol@you. If you think people would not be able to beat the raid within the first day or two of release if they were given the chance, just lol@you. Bungie knows it could be done, which is probably why they're delaying its release so as to avoid the PR disaster.

I wonder what happened to make you so jaded and cynical hahaha. Yes they are a company whose purpose is to make money. But they are also a company that wants to make product people enjoy. I doubt there is anyone at the development level that doesn't want us to have fun playing their game.

They just want to be known as the first to do everything. Regardless it won't be the first day. I think they just want to gauge how quickly people go through the story and give them time to explore the Dreadnaught a bit in case they need to patch something that could only be found by subjecting the game to massive numbers and seeing how new players respond to puzzles.

Absolutely accurate. "Vault wasn't out day 1" is completely irrelevant. It's a totally different circumstance. We weren't at zero and trying to figure out how the game worked past level 20. We are past that now. TTK is not going to have anywhere near as much new content as people are hyping it to. I will bet that at least 50% of the new "quests" are the old content repackaged. They even said in their podcast that leveling up is a lot faster now and they want everyone to be able to (even if they can only play 60 minutes a week). It's not going to take long to be 40 and people will start running it at 40 (even if they don't have the best gear yet). If people have beat all content in a day or two, they game is going to be in serious trouble (and good luck pulling in old players who leave again).
