  • Awww, that's sad. :( I found that when I was a really nervous teen who had trouble speaking up in public, doing things like public speaking contests helped a lot. I got to prepare my thoughts in advance, and because it was more of a performance than a dialogue, I found it much easier to express myself. Over time, being made to speak in front of people made me a lot less scared of what would happen when I was heard. I really enjoy speaking to groups now. I would definitely be a lot more awkward and nervous if I hadn't done public speaking at school.

  • Just realized this was cross-posted to the main forum. Sorry, but it's not something I'm comfortable admitting to the whole of BNext.

  • When I speak in front of people my heart is beating at a million miles an hour. But after a little I calm down.

  • To this day, when I have to deliver a speech in front of people, my knees tremble the whole time. The trick is hiding it from the audience. They only see what you let them see. You can be a quivering pile of jelly on the inside as long as you look confident on the outside! As it is, I won a few public speaking awards back at school despite the fact that I spent each speech feeling like I was going to collapse at any moment. Fake it 'til you make it. :D

  • Some serious truth here. Kind of having to do with public speaking but not really, when I was promoted to supervisor at work I was nervous as hell. I knew I would have to take charge and designate work, make the schedule and all that jazz. For weeks I was worried I couldn't handle it, or the people I was in charge of wouldn't listen to/ respect me because we had been at the same employment level together for so long. Turns out I'm a pretty good leader, the key is not letting people know you're nervous. It's tough but in the end it works.

  • How often do you give speeches? I have not done one in a while. And when I did I never used the podium. I like for them to see all of me but I still freeze and I always say less than what I want to say. In my head I have it rehearsed perfectly but when I say it I leave out a lot of information and I don't know why I just stop like that.
