Im a newb streamer, don't want to be a cleavage streamer

http://www.twitch.tv/shootingpandas 24+ hour stream on 9/15 starting at 5am eastern! So I'm a newb streamer. I plan on getting a playstation camera in the future to stream more, but I need pointers. I am a girl and everyone says that I need to show cleavage to get a lot of views. I really don't want that. Granted I will freshen up though and wear makeup and dress appropriately but Can you give me pointers and advice? I have some past broadcasts and would love if anyone with some free time could check them out. Lately I have some cod ones so please excuse those. I understand having a schedule helps, but I don't plan on making one until I get a camera. Thank you so much ahead of time!!!!! -pandas WHAT I HAVE LEARNED: Nightbot Be yourself, dress as you would normally. Don't be monotone, speak well and address audience. If camera shy, place picture beneath camera to help. Help viewers every once in a while. Don't straight up ask for donations. Check other high up streams for examples. Try to be humorous and entertaining. Don't be berating and trolly against chat trolls. Expect nasty chat messages as a female, ignore it. Try to save $ to invest in better streaming equipment. Have party chat with everyone's voice to be heard. Create a schedule, shows commitment. Try streaming when main popular streamers are not. Do not rage over own stupidity and blame other players Do not need camera, but if do make sure background appropriate and lighting is good. Have a good microphone. There are some more that are very specific but I promise that I have made note of them. If I seem to be missing more info please let me know so I can add them to this post and use this thread as my "cheat sheet". Edit: Lots of sound advice from everyone. Thank you so much! I still welcome more! YwY Edit 2: wow! So much to read! I may not Che able to comment them all but I am listening to all you have to offer! Thank you so much for trying to help a future streamer! :) Edit 3: I've decided to do the whole cam thing. I will be getting one this weekend and trying it out for a stream. :)

  • You sure as hell don't need a cam. The streamer Frenzy has 100K followers and has only 2 pictures of his face on the Internet. Just act like normal, be interactive with chat, and do not ever look at the viewer count. Ie streamed about 10 times. I don't know how many viewers I've got. Don't ever plan to know. Also, hitting up this link will allow you to set up nightbot, which is a robot chat moderator that you have control over.
www.nightdev.com
Also, don't give moderator status out to those that don't deserve it. If you're planning to stream destiny, which I would assume you are, I'd suggest trying to get in touch privately with other streamers in the community. It's like a job, because connections get you places on twitch. Try to find a twitch team as well. Those are basically just a clan, except it's straight off the twitch site and for streamers. Joining a team can help you build your own community and spread the positivity of your stream onto the next. And schedules are important as well. Like, really important. After about a month of streaming, you should be able to have a consistent schedule time down. I'm still trying to find my own personally. But it's seriously super fun to stream, and you should always be streaming just to have fun. That's the most important piece right there. If you have fun, there's a pretty good chance so will your viewers. And don't forget to set up your twitch account with a mini-bio, a full bio, a profile picture, etc. Now, shameless self plug
I usually stream Smite or Binding of Isaac: Rebirth. • I don't stream often but I watch several. What I look for in a stream is this: 1) the streamer is positive and interactive with the veiwers 2) talking about the game and other interesting things. ie. Stories in game and out of game, various topics brought up by veiwers 3) does a variety of different activities in game 4) has a clean looking stream (not logos and sub/follow stuff takin up he whole screen) 5) most importantly, have music playing softly in the background. If you have all these I will 100% watch and support your stream! Best of luck to you as well

    • Probably the best female Destiny streamer I have seen is Loriipops or Melooonie. Check both of them out. It is normally relaxed and fun atmosphere. Loriipops does 24 hour streams quite often.

            • By saying "you really don't want that" it means, to me, that you are considering it? What are you looking to achieve from your stream??

              • If you're pretty and have big boobs, show that off. If you're a good game player, show that off. If you're funny, snarky, sarcastic or have good catch lines, show that off. Basically whatever asset you have from looks to smarts to skills, that's what you want to be the focus of the channel. You need to do something that stands out to get people to view you over someone else.

              • I would say the most important things for streaming start ups is to get a good overlay and custom sounds. Sadly we need to be entertained more than just watching a game if you want viewers to stick. Also, it takes a long time to build a viewer base. Helping viewers and being interactive with chat can accelerate that process.

              • OP shouldn't listen to kuuhaku_shinnon (sp?) There are successful streamers that don't even use Facecams. But the key thing for you to understand, dear OP, is that streaming will not become a career just because you want it to. It's all just luck. Just go into streaming with the intention of having fun.

                • Subject while streaming helps, i think. Instead of just playing and expecting people to be entertained try having some topics. Like explain things and why. Examples: heres my setup, gear, and why i choose that. I do this during Templar fight because of this. I like this heavy machine gun because of this, what do you guys think? Sure its common sense for many but stuff like that creates conversations and engages the people watching 😊

                  • Just cued up one of your PvP videos. Myself I think the whole camera thing is annoying. I'm here to see game play and have fun. Could care less about what the person who is playing looks like. But I guess that is a thing, don't understand it.

I don't think you need to be a cleavage streamer. There are lots of successful female streamers who aren't. You just need to make yourself presentable, talk to your chat and have an attractive personality.

As a fellow girl, please allow me give you some tips ^-^ 1) Sadly, the cleavage is necessary for views, and sad part is, there is always going to be a few guys "looking" at you. We both know how it feels to get "looked" at. :/ 2) Don't be one of those streamers that rages or gets upset after they die in Crucible (*cough**shesmynerd**cough*). Just realize the mistake you made, and say things like "Damn, I should have used my pulse rifle instead" or "Okay....should have ran over there instead of turning that corner". Trust me, people will see how you analyze what you're doing to fix mistakes and not be toxic. 3) Choose an appropriate question from your chat (if there are questions), and answer it during load screens to keep your audience entertained. 4) Idk make a trademark phrase? Might do this so when someone hears or mentions that phrase, they know who it came from or what channel it represents. 5) Get prepared for the sexual comments and occasional salt. No explanation needed, you can figure that out on your own :/ Seeing as what you are trying to do now, and since you're kind of new but have some experience, welcome to the bottom of the Destiny streamer food chain. Stream your way up to where you want to be. Good luck. ^-^

                        • My only advice would be to not to engage every negative comment that comes across your chat while you stream. Taking the high road and focusing on why you are there will increase your chances of long term success. You stream to showcase gaming. Good luck!

Props to you for taking the high road. Keep a schedule, employ good mods (let's face it, disrespectful boys will need to be kicked from the stream), and maintain a consistent look.

You said it all. Don't become or do something You don't want in order to gain something that won't br solid. Just be Yourself and people will like Your job, and remember that is better to have 5 people really engaged in what You do than 5000 persons only using You as a fetiche or porn source. A schedule and a well defined "programme" will be paramount, establish categories where You can showcase games You play daily and games You try out. The most important thing to do is always to showcase and out up front Your take on gaming and streaming.
