What exactly does Phil mean where he says
when the game comes out in a year let's just work together to make it special in some way.
That still sounds like a parity clause to me.

Sure, there may not be a clause anymore but saying they want extra stuff for a late game, they might as well say it's a requirement and a lot of indie devs are not going to want to put up with that, and just not release it on Xbox.

  • Exactly! It just sounds like a lot of PR speak but nothing has really changed. Chris Charla said this exact same thing months ago to try and dispel the parity clause because it had grown in negativity. I hope they plan on changing it in the future but I don't think it's changed as of right now.

  • Not really, if the game is delayed for what ever reason he's just asking for little things in it to make it seem fresh and new. Take shovel knight for instance, it too a while to get to Xbox, but when it did it had some battle toads stuff in it that wasn't in the Wii u or ps versions

Yes it is. Why should devs have to put more in a game just because it is released later? You see don't Nintendo or Sony ask for more content in indie games if they are released on other consoles first to "freshen it up". They just want their version to be the definitive edition. It's why we saw devs like Devolver Digital gave Microsoft the middle finger because you had to sign a NDA with them just to talk about putting your game on the Marketplace.

  • Devolver is a publisher. and that's a shame, since they publish a few really good indie games like Hotline Miami.

Exactly. It is a shame that these games won't be on an Xbox console because of the parity clause. I believe that's the reason they signed a 5 games contract that included the Hotline Miami series to be exclusive to Sony on consoles but it's not forever exclusive. Oh yea that's right. I forgot they were pubs instead of devs.

  • nah. they're a digital only pub, and their games were on steam first. hotline 2 is much harder than hotline 1.

  • True. It's where I played the first. I agree that 2 is harder than 1.

  • It's not that I don't want to see the parity clause gone because I do want to see because whether it's really or not there is a stigma behind it.

  • It's the same thing that Chris Charla, director of ID@Xbox, has been saying for months but nothing has changed. I'm just waiting to see actual change not just what someone said.
