Incorporating Grimoire Ingame

Good idea!

Horrible idea!

I posted a long time ago about how this game could benefit from lore that is already in place. So I've given it some more thought and come up with a good idea for incorporating the grimoire story into the actual game. Let's use the Thorn cards as an example. You've found ghosts and completed the exotic bounty for Thorn and you possess all the Different Thorn grimoire cards. You go to the Speaker and he has two boxes: Inventory and Legends Selecting inventory takes you to the usual speaker menu with emblems and class items and such. But if you select story, you have a new menu with lots of options. You see grayed out lines for Kabr and Battle of Twilight Gap and the like. You still need to unlock some cards there. But you scroll to the next page and Thorn is not gray but gold. So you select it. This launches a cutscene with you, ghost, and the Speaker. He walks through the tower, lots of nice scenery and landscape shots, as he tells you the legend of Thorn. He SPEAKS about everything that is in the grimoire. All of this would be skippable in case you select the wrong story on accident. But you get to listen as the story and lore unfold. Maybe Zavala or Cayde is brought in to tell one story because they have more knowledge about it. Eris would reveal the Crota cards, for example. Shaxx would talk about the crucible cards and such. All of the cutscenes would be rendered in game, I'm not talking fully cinematic "final fantasy" quality stuff here. But like when you first meet the Speaker. This would serve the purpose of adding a great deal of depth to the actual game world, using the lore that many people slaved to create. This would give an added incentive for people to grimoire hunt and silence a vast majority of players who say that destiny has no story. So what do you guys think? Any improvements you'd like to add? I'd like your feedback. Hopefully this is something that we will see in the future.

I like the idea, but it honestly doesn't affect me. I'm one of the few who actually admits to enjoying the grimoire cards. I read WAY more about the story via the app (on the bus to work, at lunch, etc) than I would ever waste while playing the game. Unless these cutscenes happen as the story unfolds, I wouldn't waste my time. I think most people feel the same. I know everybody says they want in-game grimoire, but I bet it's usage wouldn't be any more than what is used now online or in the app. Games I've played in the past that use an in-game "read the backstory" letters or files or whatever, annoy the shit out of me. If you don't tell it to me as it unfolds, it's not essential info. If it's not essential info to completing the game, why would I spend time reading or watching when I could be playing?
