You see it all the time. "Music today is absolute shit. I wish we could go back to times when music was actually decent."
The truth of the matter is, the "shit" you are referring to will eventually be forgotten, while the true artistry will be remembered for years to come. Frank Sinatra, Elvis, The Beatles, The Who, Pink Floyd, Guns n' Roses, Nirvana, they are now legends. People still listen to their songs, and will continue for god knows how long.
Remember LMFAO? I'm Sexy and I Know It? They basically fell off the face of the Earth. Their music will go down as nothing more than a fad, and be ignored entirely by future generations. This is what eventually happens to every artist that just panders to the lowest common denominator.
So, what modern artists will be remembered as legends? Imagine Dragons? Kanye West? Katy Perry? What do you guys think?

Classical. It's been around for 500 years, it can survive 500 more
-
Any Rock from the 60s-90s will always be around (Pink Floyd, ACDC, Nirvana, etc)
-
I'd say every genre other than pop has the chance of creating legends but that depends on the artists. But yeah any pop artist could quit tomorrow and be forgotten the next day because there's another 50 people that do the same thing at any one time
-
I couldn't say. I hope Coldplay and imagine dragons last though. They are my favorite modern bands.
-
I don't know about you but I'll be listening to Linking park Kid Cudi Drake Radiohead Coldplay Childish Gambino For years to come

Imagine Dragons, I hope. they're really good.

I have a good one. Arctic monkeys. They aren't your typical Alternative rock band, but still alternative. They sound much more gritty, which I love.
-
Metal of all forms. Black Sabbath will live forever.
-
I plan on listening to: Newsboys Tobymac Owl City Sidewalk Prophets Tenth Avenue North For a while.
-
Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, Hank Williams Jr, etc. These will always be remembered for their contributions to country music. Because now there isn't country music, there's songs about beer, sex, and trucks. That ain't country.

Van Halen

Nothing that I enjoy, that's for sure. I like Alternative, electronic, 80's pop, soundtracks. Except rock/punk will probably be around for a long time.
-
Eminem will last a long time I think

Rick astley. The Rick roll will live on
-
Maybe pierce the veil?

Good ol' alternative for the win. Phoenix, passion pit, tdcc, and the main drag will never die out. At least for me...
