This just in, Strange Coin economy is tanking, the Nine facing extreme cuts
The Tower Inquirer is reporting that the massive influx of Strange Coins into the economy has devalued the mysterious currency. In past times, guardians could only earn up to 9 per week in any guaranteed fashion. Guardians, in turn, would have to make hard decisions as to what items in Xur's inventory could be purchased each week. These days, most Guardians are sitting on piles of strange coins for a variety of reasons.
Xur was quoted as saying "My function here is to trade...I know this." But it was clear from his demeanor that he was more reluctant to part with his exotic goods for the same prices he has always offered. It is clear that all is not well with his bosses in the Nine. Some have leaked rumors that Xur's contract with the Tower to fix prices even amid this inflated economy is going to be impossible to maintain. It has already been revealed that Xur is unable to source the highly demanded Gjallarhorn rocket launcher, likely due to this currency devaluation combined with the fixed pricing structure. In addition, last week Xur was unable to source enough exotic weapons and only offered armor pieces and other minor items. Official word was that he could not "safely" offer a weapon at that time. Who knows what other clandestine organizations are involved in this scheme? Is his current offering of the relatively unpopular "Patience and Time" a parable to the Nine or to Guardians? You decide.
While the Nine has no formal emissary other than Xur, an unsigned missive also pointed a finger at the Awoken Queen for purposely trying to destabilize the Strange Coin economy by rewarding up to 3 coins per small chest in the Prison of Elders challenges. This can potentially be a never-ending source of Strange Coins for any Guardian with even minor inclination. It is unclear what the Queen's motive might be in this endeavor, but flooding the market in this way clearly wont be good for consumers in the long term. More shortages or eventual price increases are expected.
Will prices go up? Will the Strange Coin economy crash? Only time will tell.

I don't think Xur will even be selling TK exotics. If he does, my guess is that Strange Coins will be replaced by another currency, or Etheric Light. It's harder to come by than coins. Whatever is most inconvenient for players, that's what Bungie will implement. Them constantly playing -blam!- -blam!- with the guns should tell you that.

While there is still no sign of parliament changing its hardline stance, the widely popular nerf is expected to take place before Lord Oryx sues Guardians world wide for the murder of his son.

Black Hammer might be called an alternative. That is until it's only outstanding and extremely cheesy feature White Nail gets nerfed. And how did you fair the previous two weeks in the Nightfall with Breaker or Hammer? I soloed both in a half hour. All because of Patience and Time. So unless you rely on the cheese to see you through and if you can aim at least a little bit Pattie is a bargain at 13 strange coins.
