A case for CPs in POE 35

If bungie wants "a lot" of people to beat Skolas (which I believe that they do because of the new triumphs thing)... They need to add checkpoints into the prison... [ If you're going to say that they don't want "a lot" of people beating Skolas, then that's a different discussion. I'm throwing out a discussion about getting people through it ] First, lets get a couple of things out of the way: 1. Some of you, especially the kind of people who are likely to frequent here, are very very good at playing the game. And you can go in, get to him, and beat him in an hour or two. And that's awesome! You're very good! Congratulations! 2. Some of you have a lot of time to throw at the problem. I remember a time when I would have sat down on a Saturday and spent all day, all night, and all the next morning if I wanted to do something badly enough. And that's awesome! Relish this time in your life! It won't always be this way! Game on! 3. Some of you don't care. And that's awesome! Why are you still reading? There are, however, an awful lot of people who don't fall into these groups. People who would genuinely like to face and overcome the challenges that Destiny offers. Who want to experience the game. With an experienced group you can beat Crota, on hard, in 25 or 30 minutes easy. VoG can be done in similar time frames but probably runs more towards 90 minutes to two hours (especially if a couple people aren't solid on confluxes or relic.) But Skolas... You're 1 level down, you have to get through 5 rounds (and usually one or two are pretty tough)... There's no room to hide or be carried (only 3 people)... And Skolas himself is a jerk. He's hard and unforgiving. It's pretty easy for a moderately good player (lets think about the big picture... not moderately good amongst the people you know (who might be top tier globally but only moderate for your particular group) but moderately amongst all the people playing destiny) to spend 3 hours just getting to Skolas... and then crash against him like waves onto the shore for another few hours before getting it. Lets call it... 7-8 hours... Many of us don't mind putting in 8 hours for something. But we simply can't put that much time in all at once. I'm talking about a lot of people who probably go under-represented... Moms, Dads. People of lesser means (working multiple jobs, lack of good transportation, etc). People with disabilities or injuries (RSI, Carpal tunnel, and worse.) Heck, teenagers with parents who give a damn and limit their playtime. None of these people have a very good chance of defeating Skolas. Not due to lack of skill, or willingness. Due to the conditions of their personal realities. So these people are given this carrot of the Destiny Triumphs thing for first year vets to show off (ignoring that it's something that will be raced to be replaced with the new emblems from the story and raid ASAP and will gather dust anyhow) that is effectively a slap in the face for one small section of it being nearly impossible. I think that Bungie is hoping that the community will band together, and that those of you who are amazing will team up two by two and shepherd those less fortunate through expeditiously. But I am not so sure. I think, like so many other things that are done without fully thinking... It's salt in an open wound. This is my case for checkpoints in POE 35. I can already hear the typing. Checkpoints will break the difficulty people will surely say. And if they're added in the same way current raid CPs are implemented, yes, but how about some of these ideas: 1. To enter a CP you have to have the CP or 2. If you have not beat rounds 1, 2, 3, 4 and also 5, you cannot get the rewards from Skolas (including Triumphs credit) or 3. You must come in with the same fireteam I would also posit that it doesn't matter. It's already possible to get someone in at Skolas. So people can skip anyways with dedicated friends I would also also posit that it doesn't matter that people can and will exploit it. Those people will get their rewards anyways. Making something easier for people who already find it easy is a small price to pay for making possible something that many people find impossible right now. Finally. For the effort that (most of us) have to put into POE 35. The rewards do not cut it. Theres a very very low chance of getting much of anything interesting at all. It's simply not worth it on any front right now, and the recent "gift" that we got is only making that so much worse for some of us.
