Honestly after seeing TTK videos I'm thinking oryx and whatever possesses the Taken is The Darkness... Oryx is not hive ... Oryx is who the hive worship making them disciples if you will, of the darkness... I believe crota and his siblings are demigods ... The counter argument would be that we can't kill the darkness this early in the game can we? Well I also believe the cabaal will be friend sooner and longer then foe and the reason they want to stop the vex is they couldn't understand the darkness so they now worship it and are trying to summon oryx... I also believe the black garden was inside the traveler... That the traveler was infected by the darkness after (also a theory ) Rasputin shot it when it tried to leave us fleeing from the darkness...
I personally love the way Bungie decided to do the story because it leaves so much room for fan theories and they are giving us a little of the story as we progress... But I do wish it was told in game not through grimoire cards

But that event later drove the Darkness to retreat further out of the system, he is a Warmind after all. I'm sure he knows what he's doing.

Maybe. He was described as a ancient hive King. The four aren't apart of the gods. They are beings that are either beyond or accord to them.

Oryx is coming to earth to avenge his son. The heir to the taken. The hive have many gods. Crota was the son of oryx, he was the youngest amount their gods.
