Should Bungie make Luke Smith publicly apologize?

Yes- his was smug and money hungry

2236

No- it's a business, we are consumers.

1361

After reading the entire euro gamer interview and the recent Forbes magazine piece release today- hard to see bungie not addressing this soon. Apparently DeeJ has said there will be something better in store for current gamers, but they don't know what yet. They are scrambling to do damage control after this guy made them looks like corporate assholes. Leave your opinion and comments below! READ--- An apology is not about Luke Smith, it's about bungie admitting fault. By him apologizing it means Bungie OK the apology and is apologizing trough him to a degree, while them apologizing directly would be ideal, that's not going to happen. UPDATE ON DLC!!!!!---- Bungie has partnered with Red Bull and now an "Epic Quest" which originally os part of TTK is only accessible if you purchase a special can of Red Bull and get the access code. Otherwise you have to wait until mid-December to play it if you don't buy Red Bull. Bungie requires Red Bull purchase for new DLC Quest Bungie doesn't care about the consumers, only their money. You now have to purchase 3rd party products in order to play something you will have purchased outright. Where does it end? Edit- sorry for the grammatical error, should say HE. Edit-- Why do all you fools keep saying "your sad to get so upset over a few emotes..." It has absolutely nothing to do with the emotes. It has to do with the principle of respecting your consumers/clientele and not be arrogant enough to blatantly speak about such people as if they are idiots and will buy whatever shit your pushing. This is 2015 there is no more "it's just a videogame company" or "he's just a designer" Wrong. He is a part of a major corporate conglomerate and as such anything he says or does in the public eye (and sometimes private) it's open for judgement and criticism. That's just life today. He gets no pass for being insensitive to his buyers. Neither does bungie. It isn't about emotes it's about expectations of a company to its consumers. I guess the difference in opinions depends if your an adult with a career who understands business or if your a teen or college student. I would be pressed to say most career working adults with families would lean towards the understanding of how there was a fault committed from a business ethics standpoint. UPDATE**** Luke Smith apologizes and TTK prices are changed.... • If they lose a lot of fan base from the interview, I see him either being fired or blocked off from all PR ever.

No, anyone with any knowledge of these interviews knows that the interviewer was baiting him. I can guarantee before the interview Activision/bungie stated what could be talked about by luke and what the interviewer should ask. The interviewer obviously took it upon himself to try and get Information out of someone who would lose his job if he gave the information. Luke does in no way speak for anyone, people say "but he's a head developer and been with bungie for 12 years" yea that's all cool, but who ponied up half a billion dollars for the game? Oh yea Activision, and as the rule goes, the one that pays the bills makes the rules. Grow up, no one owes you any apology for you not understanding simple tactics used by the interviewer to get a rise out of the community and to boost his reader numbers.

    • Pretty sure even if he were to apologize the game is still in damage control mode for bungievision and the astounding drop in player base on the latter of 2015 will rattle heads at the top of the hat rack

      • Nothing wrong with his responses. Terrible questions being asked from a biased party that could only see his own agenda. I would be more embarrassed if I was euro gamer.

          • I think they'll ignore it in the hopes that it goes away, and at the same time announce some kind of swag deal for people who already own the game and both DLC's, and who also buy the TK. It will create a sense of victory for the community, and they hope the rest will just be forgotten over the summer.

                • Who cares if the Luke muppet apologizes? This wont change BUNGIE's colors. At least we got an official word on how Bungie "values" their customers and fan base. $ In cash... $ P.s. I used the Dollar symbol to be in league with BUNGIE's currency understanding.

                • Nope, its refreshing to feel like Bungie is actually telling me the truth. At least when ttk releases and disappoints the entire community we won't be quite as surprised right? After all, we now have a pretty clear statement from bungie about how much they value their loyal customers. We are not important to them, they don't need long time customers. They need suckers who can be pulled in with hype and drained of their disposable income.

                  • It wouldn't do any good, I highly doubt he'd mean it, they can just say he doesn't' represent them just like Microsoft said before getting rid of those 2 guys who made comments about the Xbox always being on. I'm pretty sure he's going to keep a low profile online, at gaming events and probably at work too now.

Over a video game? Nope. It won't help Bungie, and it won't satisfy the torches and pitchfork crowd anyway - already on the forums here there are posts about firing him, and posters saying they want to screw his wife, and cesspool bullshit like that. So no, he doesn't owe anyone an apology for interviewing poorly, and nobody who has decided he's evil incarnate would care. Bungie may walk back and/or clarify his statements; they may say "Luke, we don't think more interviews are a good idea," but other than that, no. He doesn't deserve any punishment or shaming.

                    • Its life today, people are bitching a about something stupid, while thousands of years ago mankind was bitching about something else, surviving if there was going to be enough food, water, clothes, cattle. If it was going to rain. And now people are bitching about something so retarded..... Just be grateful that you aren't be eaten by a lion, bear, crocodile, whatever or a disease that with technology today can cure. So just be damn grateful
