You can still get ascendant materials in the Vault of Glass.

I'm gonna take a wild guess and say that any new characters are going to be screwed over now....so much for levelling my level 19 hunter I guess...
-
If they are truly new, all the legendary gear they get will not require ascendant materials to upgrade. The only people screwed are the ones in the middle with a whole bunch of partially upgraded legendary gear.

As one of those "screwed" people in the middle, they should make the speaker exchange materials in both directions. I'd happily trade a few motes to fully upgrade a legacy legendary. Wonder what happens if you ascend a pre-HoW legendary that is isn't maxed out? Would the damage be prorated down from 365?

Edited by Caelan63: 5/20/2015 5:20:35 PMI agree.... They do so many bad things :( They took away my main way to get marks, and I could have done faction that way by changing the material exchange. Now it's use marks to get material, it used to be exchange a loooooot of material get 5 faction points (Vanguard or crucible). Alas. Now I have to hope that in about 5 months I'll have enough to buy a weapon and a helmet...provided my luck in encountering public events continues. I'll never get crucible points, as I don't want everyone to start reporting me for being stupid by either dying to much with little kills or hiding in the corner hoping no one notices me. Now I can lose those ascendent shards and energy I have (while not gaining anymore according to the op) for other things? I don't need that!

Edited by Stroker_Ace27: 5/21/2015 12:15:05 AMI guess I'll just convert all my shards into energy. The new vendor armor is basically the same (but better) and doesn't need ascendant materials. An old pair of boots isn't fun, but I'd miss my Saterienne Rapier. I suppose I'll upgrade the weapons I really like, replace my old armor (which I basically did on day one of HOWs anyway) and find suitable replacements for my other legendary weapons.
