Hi there I am also having this issue as well. Really weird considering my internet in general is working and I have tried all the possible solutions from power cycling to restarting my router. Coincidentally started happening with Friday's patch.

Same but just a "You have been disconnected from Destiny servers._.Bla blah. " No error code,gets to character choice and fails before first orbit. Worked worse after second to last update and started this after last update Tues-Wed. I see friends on destiny, no one seeing server issues in gameplay. Internet and PSN are fine. Granted the servers are probably the most crowded they've ever been.
