Does anyone think Bethesda makes the best damn rpg games around?
No.
Bethesda-developed games are shoddily made games.
When you yhink about rpg's, you're probably picturing fallout or TES
Nope.
I usually picture good RPGs like The Witcher, Dragon Age or Mass Effect.

Ah, it's you... I hate you for some reason.

Skyrim had awful combat, characters that just dumped info in your face and was really easy. Even so, something is making me replay it 6 times.
-
To each his own. I tend to lean more towards the open world, non- linear style games. But mass effect and Witcher are both great titles regardless.
-
The Witcher and Mass Effect (excluding ME3) aren't linear.
-
Mass Effect is a RPG? Isn't it just a futuristic science fiction shooter? Is it even open world? It seems like it's linear.
-
Games don't have to be medieval or open world to be rpgs.
-
I know it doesn't have to be medieval (Fallout). But I did used to think it had to be open world. Like, that you had more options for role playing. I don't know about games like the Witcher and Mass Effect. You're kinda forced to be this one guy. Sure you may have lots of choices and stuff. But that isn't too bad. I mean, those games surely have lots of side quests too, right? And not only the main quest?
-
The rpg genre is quite broad. I've been rpgs since Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest on the NES. Some are create your own character/open world/numerous side quests and others are linear/turn based with little or no side quests. The Shadowrun games on pc are phenomenal linear rpgs.
-
Well, good thing I know that now. ^_^

Edited by BritLemon: 5/6/2015 8:03:57 AMMass Effect is your own custom Commander Shepard. The Witcher is based off of a book series, which is why you're a preset character. Both Mass Effect and The Witcher have side quests and choices. Character customisation, open world, choices and side quests aren't requirements for a game to be an RPG. They are more recent trends in RPGs.
-
Hmm.. Without those trending things I don't really see how it could be an rpg then.
-
Because RPG means Role Playing Game. You don't need any of that for a game to be an RPG.
-
Specifically Mass Effect 1. It doesn't have to be a big open world to be an RPG you know. And no, it's not linear.
-
Hmm.. I just don't feel it being an RPG if you're limited in travelling. But hey, to each his own! :D
-
That doesn't matter. Open world isn't and never has been a requirement for a game to be an RPG.

Well, you learn something new everyday! :D
