Lack of Matchmaking is Like Forced Carpooling

Bungie, why do you hate Matchmaking? Why do you insist that the only way to accomplish raids, survive nightfall strikes, and apparently now to participate in Trials of Osiris is to be a member of some separate club of Destiny "carpoolers". I may know other people who play Destiny. I know other people who play Destiny on Xbox One. But do I know other people who play Destiny right when I want to play Destiny in the missions I am intending to play? Good grief, you've made this ridiculously hard and stupid. I finished the Crota mission once thanks to a random invitation on a free weekend day. I almost wasn't able to do that as I had to figure out how to open my mail and accept a party invitation and ... (really? I can't just push a button?!) I have zero expectation of ever doing Vault of Glass. Now, you are expecting me to shell out money for a game that I can't enjoy unless I show up with a ready made gang of guardians. I have this unfortunately stereotyped image of a twenty-something game geek exclaiming "why everyone must already have an entire world of online friends!" Absolute disconnect from reality. Even if I had synchronized online friends, they would have to have the same blasted system. The carpooling metaphor grows worse upon discovering that everyone can participate only if they have the same model car. Your mindset is precisely opposite of what the social media powered world is. Everywhere else, I can informally connect with others very easily right through my app or computer. Here, you want me to make full partnerships with synchronized calendars just to play a game. Why can't I just turn it on and play? Sure my ad-hoc group may well get its tail kicked by a team of veteran teenage game warriors, but I am ok with that. It would still be enjoyable to do that. Instead, that isn't even an option. You are making every potential social feature unbelievably hard. When our kids our older, I may venture into Call of Duty and other games. Right now they are younger; Destiny's "T-Teen" rating is appropriate. For the record, I don't want my kids making "friends" with a bunch of online strangers just to play a video game. Why can't they just play and team up with whomever is on? The rationale behind the lack of matchmaking is obscure and painful. Good luck with House of Wolves. I believe I will save my money.

    • Because the people who don't want match making are the people who also got Jellyhorn and don't want Xur to sell It. Because If you got 3 friends. Match making will not hurt you. But, match making does not really hurt anyone who already gots a group lined up. But, when you are forced to call in people and gather them. (Unless you have a clan) It can be a pain. Basically It boils down to everyone feeling special. Because they got buddies to help them and you don't.

    • Bungie hates matchmaking. Because they think other players ruin your fun. It's the most bizarre backward logic around. Add matchmaking to trials of Osiris !!! or don't and watch your ToO player numbers plummet off a cliff by week 3.

      • Forced carpooling IS matchmaking essentially. Does no one else see that? This is a social game. Some might argue that but there wouldn't raids if it wasn't. For those who can't come up with 5 friends, you only need two now to get endgame content. Matchmaking allows people to AFK and people shouldn't be able to do that and get some of the best gear in the game.

And honestly I don't understand why so many people are opposed to this. If its OPTIONAL it doesn't affect anyones current game. If you have a fire team you already play with, adding a matchmaking option will not affect you _at all_. You can still choose to play with your fire team just the same as you always have.

        • Matchmaking is terrible for Raids, Nightfalls, and Trials of Osiris. This will hurt the game and community. Bungie wants you to earn your gear in Trials of Osiris by competing against organized teams that not only have the skill to participate, but communication as well. You say Matchmaking wouldn't affect the outcome? Well it does, even if if went into ToO with a full team, I could still get match made against Randoms which would be pretty boring if they happen to be ill prepared, bad, or lack the communication to actually compete. This also applies to Raids and Nightfall, but possibly even more severe. These events would never work with matchmaking the way most people that want it thinking they would. They want to do Matchmade VoG hard until they get Matchmade with multiple players who have all blue gear and 1 exotic with zero oracle weapons and experience.

            • I've been matchmade with scrubs on a weekly heroic to the point where I will back out and just wait for my friends. I've played raids with people from the forums that took literally two hours to beat confluxes through Templar. That shit don't fly for me so good riddance to matchmaking. Better competition this way. Scrubs out, talent in

Right.. Why don't they just set up something in the tower to grab some players rather than Chase some one down, click L3....inspect,...send party request or friend request, only to get no reply or told...No... Or suffer the dubious task or using website and forums for recruiting. They have that big ass room where Lord Saladin is.. we can recruit there..Or to the left of your screen where rewards show, why not make that a chat system In the tower. ? My logitech key board connects to my ps4..so I can easily type my request
everyone can participate only if they have the same model car.
So true! Nightfall matchmaking should be an available option IF AND ONLY IF you have a mic. Then you enter at your own risk.

The raid is a moderately more difficult than connecting to social media. The raid requires some experience to actually complete. You can't simply just plug in and finish it. I hope I never play with you in this game. Also your topic makes no sense. You ask for matchmaking but then you say its like forced carpooling. You want to be spoonfed content, then play the weekly strike. If you want to run the raid, then you need to be strong. Have fully upgraded weapons. Have a team of like minded / geared players. Yes those things are required. And you can't do that with matchmaking. Matchmaking is forced Carpooling, not the lack of it. NITWIT! You need to read more books.

                      • I sorta agree with you. I understand why they did it, I just don't think it buys them what they are trying to get. And their lack of support for guilds is glaring considering that they are trying to push them. But that title you are using is hurting my brain. Matchmaking is forced carpooling. A lack of matchmaking means you can still drive solo. That's the total opposite of your analogy. (We should have the option for either.)

                        • Added matchmaking is forced carpooling. I fail to understand your rant. Basically Bungie needs allow for OPTIONAL matchmaking for the Daily, Weekly and Nightfall. I prefer to solo / duo mine. The raid needs an optional LFG service. Forced matchmaking would throw your children (if that is what this is about) in to a carpool of strangers. In fact, it already does. Don't like them talking to people? Don't give them a headset. If you have to treat your children like that, be sure to make them wear a helmet when they go outside. I think you need to figure out what point you're trying to make.
