A few problems...
Earth is Earth, not Reach. It has a moon, and is in the solar system. The other planets are named Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune, which shows that the Earth we play on is the same Earth in real life.
Plus if Reach fell, how did humanity ever get to survive to be crushed by the Darkness?

Nah dude. Bungie was clear in making a completely new world. The symbolism came from the original writer Joseph Staten, who also was the director of cinematography for Halo. I think he's the one who came up with the resurrection concept.
