usually somewhere between 3 and 5 minutes left, the match magically ends. is that supposed to happen? i wish it wouldn't.

If one team gets max points then it will end the match
-
Games can end early if you're team gets the max score.

Did you join games in progress? It may not be related but elsewhere in the game (warsats come to mind) if you join something in progress the timer starts at the beginning for me, but ends after the appropriate amount of time from its original launch. Just an idea.

I ran in to this yesterday and a guy that was in my party told me the following story: Bungie's dedicated server system for the crucible will randomly assign new hosts to the crucible game at regular intervals in the match in order avoid one person cheating by "stand-bying" or any other tactics the hackers use to cheat. When a match begins, a random host is selected. 2 minutes in to the game, host will switch to another random person. However, if the first person has a very bad connection, host will not be switched in order to have a "seamless" experience. If the person's connection does not get better by the 2nd host switch, all players will be booted to orbit with a "caterpillar" or "hare" or "rabbit" code, can't remember which one. All players will be booted because the system thinks that the host is trying to cheat and manipulate the system. Most of the time, it's just people playing on dial-up connections.
