Lately I've been thinking about the Exotic weapons available in Destiny, and how often I see certain ones out in the wilds. Mind you, I rarely touch the Crucible so I'm talking as far as the REST of the game goes. It's sad to see so many players using only certain Exotics when months ago I remember a certain someone from Bungie say they really want to see the Exotics 'battle it out' for the exotic slot. Problem with this is the overall functionality of the limited Exotics we have. I'd love to see more DIVERSITY with how each exotic behaves so they can be saved from being compared to other Exotics.
One good example is the Exotic Rocket Trio, Gjallahorn, Dragon's Breath, and Truth. Personally, I always hear people talk about Gjallahorn and how its the BEST EXOTIC. In truth, it's the best in what it specializes in. To better understand where I'm going with this, lets take the rocket launchers as an example - and from experience in the game - find out what they're best used for and strengthen that diverse quality.
Gjallahorn - I don't have it myself, but I've seen it way too many times to not notice what it's good for. Single target damage. And it does a damn good job at it too.
--- What could be changed though for the sake of diversity is change the weapons element to Arc, that way players would see more use for Dragon's Breath.
Truth - As being the only Void element exotic in the game, Truth is already diverse. It also has the strongest overall stat spread of the three, and along with Aggressive Seekers and a prox. detonation, Truth seems to be more of a long range/general use rocket launcher.
--- That being said, the problem here is it's not diverse enough. As an Exotic ability, tracking - by itself - is a rather weak perk as you can find plenty of other rocket launchers that do the same and yield similar results. To better stand against the G'horn, my idea is to add a bit to the Exotic Ability.
------ Exotic Ability : Showstopper - Projectiles fired from this weapon track their targets aggressively and gain velocity the farther it travels. Enemies caught in the blast radius are left disoriented.
Dragon's Breath - Personally my favorite, but also the one most overlooked. I can see why too. Popular opinion dictates that if a rocket doesn't track, then it's bad. I beg to differ, however, as its nice to see my rocket not hit a wall or a player because it's aligning towards the center-mass of a target. Dragon's Breath is also very slow, and has an agitating 1st perk. Tripod is something more useful when it comes to rockets that can hold only 1 at a time. (Just to point out, the Grimiore also states that this rocket launcher can hold 3 at time as a selling point) It's exotic ability is vastly underwhelming for the launchers' namesake, description, and functionality. It leaves a solar grenade that does even less damage its grenade equivalent, effects such a little area, and is rather flawed. Any enemy you hit with the initial explosion will be sent flying out of the flares range, and enemies too heavy to be knocked back will just waltz out of the area anyway. The worst part about the rocket launcher right now is that you can easily find a better legendary rocket. However you use it though, this rocket seems to be best at crowd control, largely thanks to it's powerful payload and blast radius.
--- I thought about this weapon the most, and have the most radical ideas for it for the sake of diversity and functionality. My ideas include to change the magazine size to 3 (because the Grimiore dictates that this Rocket Launcher comes with it), change the 1st perk to Feeding Frenzy to better suit the Exotic ability, lose the ability to get Javelin as a customizable perk for Flared Magwell. Now for the more radical ideas...
------ Inherited Perk - High-Mass : Having this weapon equipped (like having it out and ready to fire) reduces player agility by 2. Projectiles drop over distance (similar to Void Bomb without the Lance modifier)
------ Exotic Ability - Tunguska Warheads (named after the mysterious Tunguska Event that took place in Russia back in 1908): Blast radius is DOUBLED and sends out a large and powerful shockwave afterwards (similar in appearance to the Titan's Magnetic Grenade only with a much larger range) that leaves enemies ignited.
If changes like these were to pass as OK with the community, we could see the roles of these rockets change to;
Gjallahorn: An ARC element boss-killer - with really no negative side effects.
Truth - A versatile launcher useful in times of crisis - prox. detonation can still cause the rocket to blow up in your face if something's trying to give you a hug.
Dragon's Breath - A mortar-type artillery capable of actually "burning the world" - slow as Hell projectiles and a large blast radius capable of damaging yourself (if used carelessly) along with drop-off will make players think twice of where they want the projectile to explode.
Anyways, these are only some ideas I had. If people want, I'll post more ideas in the future. Thanks for reading.

1 ReplyI would love the changes to the dragons breath and truth. With that said the changes to galla wouldn't make too much of a difference in my opinion. If dragons breath was as fun as you described i would shelf my galla.
