Why do people do crota normal first and then hard?

9 RepliesIt's obvious if you have three characters you can get six no land beyonds.

Run it on Hard up until Crota. Then leave. We got armor, weapons and materials when we did this. Also if you get nothing from the witches you still have another chance on normal. Then speed run the entire raid on Normal to get the special and heavy weapon drop chances from Crota. Then use your Hard Crota CP. You'll end up with more stuff doing it this way than running Normal then Hard.

To get the normal drops like black hammer and the armor pieces. Usually primaries drop on hard more than anything else.

I just do crota on normal if I can find someone with a check point because I need black hammer. Otherwise I would just run hard for double rewards

You cannot or it's highly unlikely to get a non-primary weapon reward (HoC, Black Hammer, etc.)

I do it to try and get gear with different stats so I can switch them up based on what I'm doing at the time. I now have a different chest for all the primary ammo increase types. Also the only raid gun I need is the song.

I wanted another black hammer and HoC for my Titan. I just do a normal Crota checkpoint then a full hard raid. Last run got black hammer and my second gjallarhorn from normal Crota. Not a bad haul.

I know heavy and special only drop on normal crota. Armor drops on both but I think hard mode is different than hard mode was on the vault. On the vault hard mode incorporated normal mode drops as an expanded loot table with both loot tables in each drop (double drops workout doing normal) Crotas End seems to not incorporate normal drops with hard drops. Hard loot being primary weapon and or materials, and armor and or materials. Because of this you can eliminate the primary weapon dropping by doing normal first and have an increased chance of getting armor simply by eliminating the weapon as a potential drop for your first roll, then doing it again with another chance for either an armor piece or a weapon. In addition to this it seems like the system intentionally avoids giving you duplicate drops in a single reward cycle. And on crota you can only get special and heavy weapon on normal due to hard being primary only. In the end for say gloves for example if you are looking for a better perk roll that fits your play style you can get up to 2 by doing normal then hard as opposed to hard first.

3 RepliesI need 2 more bh and 1 more hoc to go with my 3 gallys and 3 ib. the only thing I need from hm is the crux which I could care less about. so i'll take my 11 hm completions and run nm cause it's fun. I don't need the headaches. a couple of the guys I play with would love to run some nm vog though. we never had enough people back in the day and missed out. I only have about 10 or so completions for vog.

EDIT: Sorry, apparently you CAN get it straight after doing normal mode. I just happened to get it under different circumstances and was told by another fireteam member that was how to get it.
