Currently in Destiny, there are two major forms of currency which are Vanguard Marks and Crucible Marks. These are used to buy weapons and armor from various vendors around the Tower.
However, I am unaware why all of the factions want Crucible Marks to sell you their wares. Shouldn't those factions have currency specific to them and their cause?
For example, New Monarchy, to my understanding, is a faction determined to create an order under one sovereign. Their main goals can almost all be traced back to the idea of unity and brotherhood, so why then, do they demand currency that you gain from killing your brothers and sisters in arms in the Crucible? It doesn't make much sense.
Factions, I believe, should have their own currencies that can be obtained or used in the same way as Eris. Eris wants Black Wax Idols before she sells you her wares.
Maybe Dead Orbit could want 200 Docking Caps from Dregs you have slain.
Maybe Future War Cult wants Vex Lenses and Sensor Whips ripped from the machine race for an unclear, ominous reason. Maybe they still want Crucible Marks. They do forsee an existence of eternal war, after all.
Perhaps New Monarchy wants nothing more than your glimmer and three or four New Monarchy commendations to show your unyielding loyalty.
I believe this would add much more dynamic and fun to being a part of a faction and give those enemy items more purpose than just patrol mission items.

Nope, currencies make bigger the already large wall between you and that shiny piece of gear you want.
